But the Regenerators and Iron Maidens scarred the crap outs me! ...especially at the one point in the game you you're looking at the T.V. screen and see the Iron Maiden coming. I was aiming at a door with a magnum...and it was the wrong one. It speared me and when it did I screamed like a girl... I agree, the Regenerators are scary as hell. The rest of the game isn't that scary, though. I wasn't scared of them, just curious in how something could take a shotgun blast TO THE FACE at point blank and live. Ah, well. It's a game, so it could happen. My friend never reads anything in a game so we didn't know how to kill them, we died like 50 times. We then found out to use the thermal scope. Which vexed us so. - The-Masses With me I didn't know about the scope either, well not until my second play through, so whenever I saw one I'd either hide around the corner and use hit and run tactics, or shotgun it in the face... Hey it works with the stryker! Oh and RPG normally did the job. (Can you say overkill?)

Ugh. The Stryker. Hated that thing. I didn't kill it before it unfroze so I had to jump around the tunnel with minimal shotgun ammo, wearing it down.
And we used the RPG on that monk with the catapult.

Doom 3... but I started the game at midnight, in complete darkness, when no one else was in the house, and I don't often play scary games so... damn! This one point a dead body is flung at you and I was on edge the rest of the game.

small bump/necro but i have been away for a weeks time so i guess you people will forgive me
mine are
blood (the noises the zombies make made me freak out when i was 6-7 years old)
fear (more shock than anything)
and the HL2 zombies because they say something resembling "ARRRGGGH HJÆLP MIIIIG" which means "ARRRRGGGH HELP MEE" which i think is pretty scary. i dont play horror games because i am very scared of such games

Is 3 days considered necro?
I remember totally freaking out over Alone in the Dark 1, and I didn't really play it either because of that. I was a bit too young to play horror games when it came out. Fast forwarding to Doom 1, which was a huge rush especially on nightmare difficulty, but not really scary in the actual meaning. The next one was System Shock 2, which had me really panicking and desperate all through the game. Finally came Silent Hill 1, which was really scary played at night, in the dark, headphones on. I was very impressed with it on lots of levels, though obviously there was still a lot where it later got improved...
Since then I've tried some of the horror games out there, but they don't really have that impact anymore as they did when I was younger.

On another note can any of you guys recommend a horror game that won't make me scream like an 8 year old?

If you'll believe it, Clock Tower: First Fear for the SNES is way more scary than Clock Tower on the first PlayStation. The cheesy voice acting alone makes it seem more funny than scary.
So, if you want something that has cheesiness, some blood and shock, and point and click action, I'd suggest taking a look at the PlayStation 1 Clock Tower. A video walkthrough of it from YouTube with some of the moments I thought were good are below.
*DEFINITE SPOILERS*
Jennifer's Scenario - Opening, Intro (1)
Jennifer's Scenario - Edward (2)
Jennifer's Scenario - Barrows Mansion (3)
Jennifer's Scenario - Finding Survivors (4)
Jennifer's Scenario - Final, with Endings (5)
*Thanks to Louischou for providing the videos*
And, my favorite moments from the game/video.
Favorite Moments of Video (2)
00:40 - 00:59 (Unfortunate Security Guard)
02:09 - 02:17 (ANOTHER Unfortunate Guard)
13:20 - 13:39 (Crazy Clock)
18:26 - 18:34 (Helen is Blind)
19:05 - 19:13 (An Odd "Addition" to the Bookshelf, and another Blind Helen moment)
Favorite Moments of Video (3)
02:10 - 02:19 (Helen finally checks out the "Addition")
02:50 - 03:02 (Xeroxed!)
13:35 - 14:23 (Jennifer Interviews the "Fake")
14:24 - 14:30 ("Fake" Clashes with Reality)
14:59 - 15:02 (Priest Robes are heavy)
17:38 - 18:05 (Time for some Horrid Voice Acting)
Favorite Moments of Video (4)
00:40 - 00:48 (A time he didn't use his weapon correctly)
01:34 - 01:47 (The Thing's evil twin?)
08:29 - 08:39 (Not excited to be freed)
Yeah, I just skipped to parts I found interesting/funny, but if I were actually playing, I'd be paying attention to the talking.
It might be a hard game to find, though.
