Yes, yes, but it isn't just a matter of what good stuff gets called "alternative". The problem is that it's basically restricted to mainstage indie and mainstage not-at-all indie as well, so there's a lot of crap and a lot of good things left out. And it's also kinda meaningless when you got your Godspeed You! Black Emperor up against Dave Matthews Band or whatever.
I dunno. It's just kinda arbitrary, is all.

I agree with that, normally I'd hate Fall Out Boy and Soundgarden being classed as in the same 'genre' but going through that list, I notice ALOT of awesome bands, even if they shouldn't be classed the same.

Why, thank you!
Other bands I like are The Arctic Monkeys, OK Go, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
Oh, one other band I listen to occasionally is The Butterfly Effect.

Ah! Reading that list is quite painful. You have really great bands and really terrible bands literally right next to each other - My Bloody Valentine and My Chemical Romance. There's Half Japanese (awesome) but also 3 Doors Down (fail), Pere Ubu (nice) but also Rancid (failfailfail).
AND I WAS PRETENTIOUSLY HOPING YOU'D ASK THAT EXACT THING, GOOD SIR!
For I am a torchbearer for that music called noise!
Which I must say is quite an alternative choice if there every was one.
Not to, y'know. Blow my own SUPER DETUNED horn or anything.

21GP, this noise music sounds a lot like Nine Inch Nails or industrial music.
It's somewhat interesting and I did listen to some of that music on the myspace.

Noise is sort of like industrial except it tends to be quite happy. And it's quite folky and droney. Noise rock is also quite lovely. The Lightning Bolt photo on the noise rock wiki is good; I got Brian Chippendale, the one in the mask, to give me an awesome band name (genisisaur) a few weeks ago when I did security duty and they played.
