CC on Linux
Hello.
I saw a comment about a possible Linux port for the game after it's out of beta. But in the meanwhile, has anyone gotten results running CC on Linux with wine, cedega, something else?
EDIT: Forgot to add, I only get an error message when trying the installer with wine 0.9.37 on Ubuntu Feisty.

It's been brought up before, apparently Data plans to port it to Linux/OS X when the final retail version is released.
As for emulating it in Cedega, I copied over an already installed copy, and it doesn't work. So you'll have to run it in a dual-boot setup.

I knew it would be only a few minutes before somebody posted something like this.
Hey, guess what, CC isn't on Mac either, so there goes that.
Linux allows you to tweak and control your system instead of force-feeding you everything. Respect people's choices.

I respect peoples choices but In my opinion I don't think linux is a very good operating system. Not many major games run on it, cc for example.

Re: CC on Linux
I whipped out my winxp laptop, installed it and copied the directory back to tabletop... Wine still says the same thing as it did with the installer:
Code: RTE Aborted! (x_x)
Abortion in file: ./Managers/AudioMan.cpp, line 65, because: Unable to init audio! The last frame has been dumped to 'abortscreen.bmp'
Maybe it has a -nosound option or something...

And what really puzzles me about it refusing to run is that it's using SDL, Vorbis, and other cross-platform libraries that typically run flawlessly under WINE.

Yeah i'll add a nosound option. No idea why it won't cooperate with Wine though.. jsut using SDL and SDL_mixer for the sound right now.
Also, there are both Mac OSX and Linux ports planned when the game is closer to being feature complete.

To those who ♥♥♥♥♥ about Linux and Unix based operating systems because there are no major games on it:
THATS BECAUSE ITS NOT WHAT THE PLATFORM IS INTENDED FOR!
Sheesh. Linux is not optimized for games. Not only that, but typical software for Linux distributions is open-source (which means people don't typically get paid for their work, its volunteered collaboration).
If all you want to do is play video games, then don't download Linux and don't disrespect other peoples' decision because it was based on more than just "OMG CAN IT RUN STEAMZ, EA LINK, OR HALFLIFES?"
Linux has free, open-source, collaborative software completing with just about every facet of Windows or Mac OSX.
Theres a fully-functional office suite (OpenOffice), there are way more browsers offered as standard software (Firefox, Operate, Konquerer, et al), there are more programming workbenches, environments, and emulators than can be designed on windows (not to mention that you can run a Linux web/ftp/shell server off of your own computer much easier than on Windows S2000, which has its own benefits).
Just because somoenes priorities and needs are different than yours doesn't make them wrong, it just makes them different.

If you remember I didn't say linux is crap I just said what is so good about it compared to windows, I don't know anyone who uses linux and it was a seemingly badly worded question about what makes it the right operating system for some people. I got an answer from ProjecktTHOR, thanks for telling me why linux is good.I'll stop raving on about linux before a flame war starts.
P.S How is saying what's so great about linux anyway "disrespecting". I didn't say linux is the worst operating system ever or something along those lines. Now I'll shut up for good.

cambiogris wrote: I think ProjektTHOR was overreacting a bit... No, its because you're all a bunch of toolbags who think that just because you use something its the best. Everyone who does stuff like he did makes themselves look stupid. Consider the fact that people might not do the same things as you and might not do the same things you require out of an operating system. Droidak wrote: I don't think linux is a very good operating system. Not many major games run on it, cc for example.
I'm pretty sure right there you just said its bad. And you admit you've never even used it, so how can you possibly determine its "goodness?" Don't judge something you choose not to use.
Also, Exalion: I'm pretty sure that they plan on charging a one-time fee for this game. There was a post about it but it got deleted (although I'm not sure who did, or why [cough])
