Post Problem with my Internet connection.
There are two computers on my network: mine, and the family computer. My computer, which uses a wireless adapter to connect, is doing so admirably.

My family's computer, which is hooked directly to the router via Ethernet cord, isn't doing so well. I keep getting a "limited or no connectivity" problem with it, and when I try to repair the connection, it can't renew the IP.

I've restarted the computer, restarted the router, tried to repair the connection a number of times, tried to create a new connection a number of times, and no dice.

So, assistance please?

Test it without wireless but direct, then try it with wireless but not direct. If you get the same try them both again. Make combinations with them and see what one is colliding with what and i'd say call your provider if it continues (or get a better router).

To be honest that was off the top of my head so if it doesnt help seek for more 'pro' helpers.

When it comes to that I don't know much but you may need to contact your isp and ask them to add another IP address to your internet or another mac address my friend needed to do that in order to hook up his 360 and his pc to the internet.

Anyways before you do that wait until someone with more knowledge on the situation posts.

Is your internet connection actually suffering?

The reason I ask is because I was LANing with my friends router the other day through a direct connection and the message we both got was 'limited or no connectivity' yet everything still worked perfectly.

Infact, if we ever establish a connection and that error *doesn't* appear, then we have problems.

Also, it might be the type of ethernet cable, but I don't know the main difference between a regular cable and a crossover cable.

Perhaps setting the IP addresses manually would work?

I wouldn't recommend manually setting the IP address unless you know exactly what you're doing.

Was he using a, gee I dunno, router? Generally, you don't have to do this unless you have a router.

IWCY, maybe it's the ethernet cable/connections on the cable?

Called the ISP and they said the Ethernet cable was screwed so it looks like we're gonna get a wireless receiver for the family computer now.

Still, thanks for the help everyone.

We're gonna use a wireless receiver instead of a cable now.

So it was the cable. Nice deal with the receiver though!

See? Again, a perfectly good instance where you could save time by just calling the utility company in question instead of asking people here who don't really know what they're talking about :]
