Re: How to install mods in to Cortex Command (make this a st

1. Finding a mod:
First, you must find a mod that you would like to use, whether it be a weapon, new map, or whatever else there is. Once you have found the mod, download and save it anywhere that you want, just remember where it is.
2. Extracting the mod:
Once you have downloaded the mod, you need to extract it, as folders cannot be uploaded, they are instead put into compressed documents (Usually .rar or .zip format, .7z is also used.) You can compress or extract mods with many programs. A few examples:
.RAR format - Winrar -
http://www.rarlabs.com - The "standard."
.ZIP format - Winzip/Default Windows Zip Handler - No one uses WinZIP anymore anyway, Windows has a built-in .zip compressor and extractor.
.7Z format - 7zip,
http://www.7zip.org - Free compressor/extractor comparable to WinRAR, can extract most formats.
Let's say it's a .rar document. Double click it to open it, and you should see a few files in there, or a folder, usually a .rte. Most other extractors work in this same way.
Here are three ways to extract the mod.
WinRAR
Navigate to your Cortex Command directory, usually C:\Program Files\Data Realms\ Cortex Command.
After you have located the Cortex Command folder (you'll know it is the correct one if you see base.rte, cortex command.exe, etc) drag and drop the files from the WinRAR window you opened previously into the Cortex Command directory, provided they are only .rte folders. Otherwise, you may have to use another method.
Alternative Method 1:
If you are not using WinRAR, or are unable to drag and drop the files, then use this method.
After opening the file with whatever extractor you wish to use, click the extract button, and when prompted for the target directory, put in the path to your Cortex Command folder, which for most people is C:\Program Files\Data Realms\Cortex Command
Alternative Method 2:
If the above methods don't work, or you just want to add variety to how you install mods, then use this method.
Copy and paste (or download) the file to your main Cortex Command directory, default is C:\Program Files\Data Realms\Cortex Command, and then right click on the file, and select "Extract Here" Usually, this is under a separate dialog, usually the name of the extractor you have installed. Example would be WinRAR > Extract Here, 7Zip > Extract Here, etc.
3. Playing the mods you just downloaded.
To play the mod, just run Cortex Command. If you get an error, either the mod author forgot to include some necessary files, or the mod is for an older version of the game.
