Let's not take this into a stupid bicker about who has the best OS, they're both on the same level. Same amount of bugs, same amount of cool things...
Yeah, let's just laugh at the 'port to mac' button.

I find the amount of hate Windows users throw towards *nix OSes, when Windows has the worst stability and security record of any of the mainstream OSes, rather amusing. Let's also not forget that Windows is less functional out-of-the-box than OS X or even some Linux distros. Third party software is really the only thing that makes a difference, and that's due to market share, which is quickly decreasing for Microsoft. Users like me dual-boot for this reason.

Now, back on topic...
After doing a bit of searching, I found a post from Data in '05 about making some changes that would allow for easier porting to Mac and Linux. I wonder if those changes are still in effect...
:bounce:

Edit: after actually sorting through the Cortex Command directory, I can't find any trace of the Allegro libraries that were supposed to be use. But I do see SDL, which is portable to essentially every common desktop platform out there.

You are wrong. The only time I've ever got a virus, it was my fault in the first place. I downloaded
something, the firewall said it was bad, I ignored it. And it broke my account.

Stability? Not once has my Windows crashed.

You say less functional? You mean like the fact I can run loads of things, loads of gaes with full graphics, and some of my friends even wish they had windows for some of the windows only programs.

The only 3rd part thing we have is the keyboard, the mouse and some headphones. It's a windows XP plain and simple.

I don't actually know what dual-boot is, and that makes m feel newbish. :(

Sorry, just wanted to say that. I hate people who bash windows.

Dual boot is when you own a mac and put windows XP operating system on it

Why do people feel the need to bicker every single time OSes come up? Anyways, everybody stfu about which is best, and, back on, oh, I dunno, the original topic:
The source code would have to be released for the game to be compiled for any other operating systems. This is unlikely, since Data plans on making the game cost money. This means one or more dev team members will need to obtain other operating systems, and compile the game on them.

So, it'll have to be first party compiled, and, it'll have to be done on the relevant OSes. You can;t compile for Macs on a PC.

Have you ever gotten tons of spam in your email? Thank the millions-strong botnets that the poor security of Windows has enabled to exist. There are next to no viruses on *nix OSes, and there isn't a single one that's prevalent today. And before somebody says it's due to the obscurity of these OSes, you should consider that the majority of servers run a form of *nix. .It's not just about viruses, either. All that adware garbage that burrows into your system and registry simply doesn't exist on other OSes. I feel like kicking a puppy every time I have to fix a friend's adware-laden computer.

You're quite lucky. While I never BSOD on XP, I get constant freezes when doing the most simple tasks. I'm not exactly a novice user, so it's not my problem.

I'm talking out-of-the-box here. Windows comes with less software to get stuff done when you buy it. But I suppose that's not even much of a point with what I'm talking about.

Dual- or multi-booting allows you to have multiple OSes installed on a single computer. I use XP and Ubuntu on a day-to-day basis.

I think my bashing is justified. Windows isn't utter crap, but it seriously falls behind in nearly everything but 3rd-party support. Unfortunately, 3rd-party support is a major dealbreaker for most.

Given that Linux is free, that shouldn't be a problem for that side. I suppose they'll have to invest in some Mac hardware/software though. :???:

cambiogris. shutup. Every operating system is good. It just depends on the user, for someone like my grandma, windows is just fine. she's not gonna get viruses because she doesn't know how to use the internet. For someone like you, mac, or linux is fine because your an idiot, and thus need all the virus protection you can get. there I said it. now shutup and stop derailing the subject of this thread.

Good lord. I never even said Windows was crap.
Just so you know, I run a virus- and adware-free custom XP setup. But I don't care for many more OS arguments. This thread was about other OSes, though, and I'm certainly not the one who derailed it with hordes of "lol mac sux" comments. Those are nothing but ignorance.

I think that's a good idea until Data gives us official info on the matter.
