A good suggestion, because then it'd clearly define battle lines. Trench warfare! However, those "fun" moments when the enemy decides to put a dropship over your bases' entrance would be lost...
Maybe make it an option?

Alternately, there could be a third option, where the farther you intend to drop your people, the cost for landing there increases. This way in a human vs human match, you can still drop on your friends base, except now it'll cost you more; a high price if the dropship is destroyed on the way down, or up.

I think it's a bad Idea, with a bad drawing. It would take all the fun out of CC. Remember the good ol'days when Cortex Commmand wasn't based off strategy, it was based off mindless bloody carnage. And aslo fudge it.

set gold cost of rocket and dropship to -10000, download rebel armor suit mod, buy 4 suits+heavy machinegun... you'll swim in gibs and blood :D

If we can put AA turrets on our bases in the future this won't be necessary
(Please Data, add AA guns!).

Maybe for the campaign mode this would be a good idea.

One people start making insanely large levels, I'd definitely want this. It would be especially awesome when we can turn the X-Wrap off and have battles where you only have to defend from one angle of attack, but on some uber death mode or something.

Exactly. If you could just drop into the enemy's base, the missions would be too easy. Even with AA turrets, there'd still be the chance that you could just zerg-drop your troops onto the roof and have it work perfectly, by using flanking decoys to soak the damage done by the AA turrets.

Obviously for the mindless carnage of deathmatch, it isn't a good idea, but for campaign mode, it's perfect.

Any fortified alien base worth it's salt would be far deeper than the bases we have now :ccsigh:

A deep base is a deep grave for the current Ai. Shallow bases may have easilly peirced defenses, but they're much easier to reinforce then deep bases. If a human opponent got inside a 'deep' style Ai base, the Ai would almost certainly die, because the reinforcements arn't intelligent enough yet to play "catch-up" with the human-controled soldiers.

It'd be quite good

For example in tomato now you can drop the Blok down that shaft bit with a bloke with a heavy digger and no one can stop him

Automatic AA guns would have the same effect

actually, i was thinking that in campaigne mod, anti air guns would be great, but the aliens base would have tons of them, that way if you did manage to land, it would have taken alot of strategy. maybe in the future you can just buy aa' for your base, auto maned.
