Where is the file that dictates where the device is placed - ie where does it say "Place gun in Hand atomgroup" ?
If we find that, then perhaps we could find out why it spins.
EDIT: I can't get it to work. Dammit.

The device is placed according to the sprite offset of the weapon and the hand offsets, all dictated in the device class.
I think the reason why it spins is that the support hand and the main hand are pretty close on the gun to start with, so the support hand is enough to keep it upright. The other weapons have it farther away from the main hand, so the weapon spins around it because there's no main hand to keep it supported.
The other theory is that the pistol is already coded to be a one-handed weapon, which is probably a bit more logical.
