I don't think non-linearity is necessary, but having a system of "leveling up", or gaining experience would be so cool.

Not necassary! it would make the game so much better, but the leveling up system I dont think would be all that good. It would be alrigh for gaining better units or something though.

Leveling up is something I doubt will find itself into the game. If anything the way you'll be doing it is keeping money throughout the missions to spend on better weapons and clones for defense. I think it would add a better touch: I'd like to chose whether I use a few enormous, expensive actors to annihilate the enemy or loads of crappy unfed farmers with pitchforks to swam them.

Prom has said there will be some sort of limited tech tree; and the existence of a tech tree, and some other things he's said, point to "leveling" up on a commander level basis. However, individual unit promotions are a horrible idea that's been shot down before and does not bear repeating.

Actually, sans the settings and barring unit leveling, everything else sounds like a sidescrolling version of Supreme Commander, with destructible environments and controllable inidividuals, which is totally sweet

I can't wait to see what promster and data will be coming up with next :)

You're such an idiot, CC isn't even going to be multiplayer. You should really read what something is before you buy it, maybe you'd be better off spending cash on runescape?

That's what daman said in his PM.

If you want to argue ♥♥♥♥♥, do it in the thread.

Anyway I never said anything about multiplayer, and I was the one who cleared a lot up by asking questions. I knew it wasn't going to have online multiplayer (by the ♥♥♥♥ way, CC does have multiplayer) I just wanted some economy game thrown in with the classic "shoot stuff".

No, don't bloody argue in the thread. He's doing the right thing, as we don't care about your bickering.

It'll be really interesting to see a proper layout of the campaign.

If he's going to insult me every few seconds because he can't get his ♥♥♥♥ straight, he should do it in this thread.

I can't wait for more of a teaser in the campaign either.

No, he shouldn't.
That's what PMs are for, personal messages.
That's what PM stands for.

There's no point posting messages intended only for you in this topic.

[/dumbargument]

To clarify: Yes, PMs are for whining at each other. I see any in this thread and bans will be handed out.

I would really like a sort of planet chart like the one on Jet Force Gemini and to choose which planets to attack with markings over them to show who they belong too.

Also Electroclan what happened to your old avatar? it was so cool.

For one thing.... I smell randomized perfect bunkers coming...

I don't.

Scenes probably won't be random at all; they're likely going to just be a standard build for you, and then the AI has a premade bunker.

I think Cortex Command is already good enough. Sure there's going to be other builds with new, and better things, but it's already fine.
If it were changed the way you people are saying, like Exp points, more money to get better units, and all that stuff. That's what modding is for! You can do all of this already, with mods. Well, not the Exp, but, all of that other stuff, is in modding. CC just wouldn't be the same with all of that stuff. I've been playing CC since, before Build13, and it hasn't drastically changed, in seven builds. The way it is now, is how it's always been, sure now there's an armor system, and more gibs, and a Pie-Menu, but that's not too drastic. Sure all this stuff would be cool, but I think it just wouldn't be CC.

And also, innerfire, you shouldn't need the 'non-linear' campaign just to make you play CC. Who cares if it's a 'defend and attack' game, it's still Cortex Command! Then just don't play Campaign, that's what everyone else did before it came out, we just played skirmish with Mods for months upon months. And that was fine, and then more and more came with the builds, until now.

Post Re: So, is the campaign going to be linear,
All I really want is for skirmishes to be more difficult and more complex than just "build a bunker and we'll randomly throw some bad guys at you until you get bored or die".

As for the campaign, I think the game intro already gives a glimpse into what we can expect. The intro talks about intergalactic trade with aliens and stuff, and explains how you are fighting for control over this planet which has tons of gold. So it's pretty clear that the goal of the campaign will be to take control of the entire planet to claim the gold haul for yourself.

I think it would be really cool if the campaign played sort of like the board game Risk. Basically you start with control of one small sector on the planet and try to gain control of the entire planet, one sector at a time. You are shown a world map, with your sector, and from this map you can attack sectors that are adjacent to your own. When you attack a sector, you play a mission, and if successful, you gain control of that sector. Each sector that you control might have its own bonuses, such as enabling you to get new units or bunker pieces, or giving you a steady supply of income. Occasionally your enemies might retaliate and attack one of your sectors, so you play a defense mission. When you gain control over the entire planet, perhaps there could be one final very difficult mission in which you finish off your enemy once and for all.
