Yeah, sometimes glow effects are a little too obnoxious. The trick is to be subtle.
I disliked the radiation trouper because the sprayer shot little X-box logos everywhere.
Ironically of course radiation is invisible to the naked eye. I blame Godzilla.

Just because the rules thread no longer exists does not mean that you have permission to carry on with inane, tangential discussion.

Re: This thread ain't gold
This is a great idea, and some sort of uranium/oil mod would be great, complete with hazmat suit miners and oil wells. Buut... it seems wrong to develop a mod when it probably will be in the main game. Hold off on this unless you really don't think that feature will be out soon, if ever.
This isn't in mod making, I know, but it was leaning in that direction and I just wanted to state mah opinion on this particular topic.

Re: This thread ain't gold
I really think Data needs to rethink the gold system, I mean, its fun, for a bit. But its clunky, takes too long, distracts you from the frontlines. Maybe if your AI that dug were more efficient. But I don't really think anyone here actually digs gold. Meh.

Re: This thread ain't gold
I only dig gold when I want a challenge. Also, I don't see the problem with the digging AI. It works fine if you just point it in the right direction, and let it go. Check on it once in a while. Would you complain if sentry AI got killed? No, because you are supposed to make sure they stay alive, and do their job.

Re: This thread ain't gold
I should also mention that radiation would have absolutely no effect on anything non-biological. Robots wouldn't be harmed at all by it. And even in living biological units, realistically it would take several minutes or even hours of radiation exposure to damage cell deoxyribonucleic acid to a point where it would actually cause harm. And that only causes long term problems since it disrupts formation of new cells and causes cancer. So you wouldn't just start dieing by standing near something radioactive. Then again it is just a game.

Re: This thread ain't gold
Hey guys, what About just make rocks/geysers that spawn randomly through the scene and have emmiter that produce some sort of mineral OR gold itself. Sound simple if you consider this fact

Sound simple if you consider this fact That doesn't sound fun. It'd all pile up and look horrible. And anyway, we can't do random spawning.

Re: This thread ain't gold
In response to color, I think a more bronzy color would be suitable for the shells.
In general response to the overall gold system. We need some sort of drilling rig the drops in directly and slowly drills down for gold.
Positives - It will have a fairly large bit. - Operates by itself Negatives - Cost will be large - Takes up space on the surface

Or a craft that drops in and makes a small hole underneath it using an emitter. Then the hatch opens in that hole, releasing small actors that mine. You just need Gold Dig AI to work without you supervising. Also, Prom said about oil refineries that land on the bottom of the map, giving you money.

Re: This thread ain't gold
Actually I have a cool idea. What about salvaging? When you kill an enemy, a small amount of gold can be gained by salvaging parts and equipment off them. I mean when the enemy robot corpses start piling up, I can't help but think "That's a lot of metal that could be recycled into new robots".

It'd be a base.rte mod but everyone's welcome to do it or not if they want.
