Dropship - Engines = drop-pod.
Drop-pod + eject at death = your idea.

Ok, since this is open again ill tell you what i think. I would LOVE to see something like the assualt bomb but custom made for the mpam for deployment in areas where it cant get into. Basically im requesting a launcher for that bomb, but with different sprites for the fighters.

You should make a weapon called the vulcan, It has a realllly short reload time and fires lots of little missiles up into the sky, falling about 6 dropship lengths infront of you. The explosion shouldnt be too large, only a bit more chunky than the standard frag. DO NOT make the missile homers. The missiles should have a squealy fireworkish sound when fired, and have a really thin glowish line that follows them out of the gun, that fade away after 2 seconds, about when the missile hits the ground.
You could configure the reload time in 2 ways. Have It so that after each shot it reloads quickly, Or have it like a normal clip that reloads after 30 shots or so. I think the first configuration would be cool, you could have a nice fat shell drop out the back of the gun after each shot.
The gun would usually be fired up into the air, but this could cause aiming difficulties.. perhaps have the missiles fired at a 70 degree angle above where you are aiming. The weapon should be equipped on the shoulder.
