Cortex Command Mod Repository
Yo, I was working on a cortex command blog review site for a bit until I had realized that there isn't much point of keeping up with it. Being that its no good format to organize mods. So I thought alot about what Mugen and alot of other "extensible" games are doing. All the mojor sites for them are not review sites but repositories which organize the information on the mods. So then I started thinking about what way this could happen with cc. (I'm a web designer for a living) The problem with the forum format is that the you have to search through the mods to get a specific kind, or even to get an updated version. This is great for forum goers, but I remember when I was'nt one. I have an account with dreamhost which has an extremely high amount of bandwith and space. That and I'm guessing that to do this I'd need to use joomla with and extention similar to mosets tree (which would let users upload content on there own, make reviews on the page, and also rate and categorize the mod) It would be similar to the joomla extensions directory. It might not work really, but I think it's worth a try. If anyone has any suggestions or anything other than (This won't work/ it's been tried already/ your so stupid/ etc..) please let me know. either on the forum or email me, Same if you'd like to help. Thanks. Update: I'll attempt to do this using php since I've already recieved 3 suggestiongs to do it in this language. Though I am not an expert in it so it should take a bit. (as well as some research) In the meanwhile I'll save up and purchase some specific webspace for it through dreamhost so it isn't being split with my own. I think this is worth spending a little cash towards. And maybe a year from now I'll do a donation drive or something if it's well used enough. If anyone has ideas about what it should have other than these ideas let me know.\ The main page should have sections pertaining to each type of mod (scenes, bunker modules, vehicles, turrets, etc...) and automaticly go to the newest cortex command builds mods (thinking ubuntu guide) though it will allow you to submit for older builds as well as to search for older builds mods. It should also display a limited number of the top rated and top downloaded mods. Maybe even have a featured mod every week or so. Each mods page should allow for a: Screenshot and or video/youtube (all allowed to be referenced/uploaded to the server) Author Credit and Website if availible Summary of what the mod does reviews posted on the page 5 star system rating. The mods will be stored on the webspace I'm buying from dreamhost. They offer 500gb space with a 2 gig a week increase and 5 terabytes bandwith with a 40gb a week increase and I've never had problems with them before in devilering this. So for now if you have any ideas to help me plot this out help me out. I need em'. Let's plot it out as much as possible before I get coding.

A repository like this would be very easy to code. I'm assuming you mean something like garrysmod.org's repository? Yeah, simple. I don't know why we don't already have something like that, or have it built into the forums(Which may be a little harder due to having to modify the forum's php, but in the end it's better).
And for a "web designer" your avatar seems rather mspaint.
Also I just realized you mentioned joomla. Lol.
No really, lol. What a piece of ♥♥♥♥.

Ooh! Most games you can mod have these. If you would make one, I would use it! Besides, Joomla FTW.

Yeah its a good idea. You can start building it now but open it only then when build 19 aka IGF ver. aka commercial version comes out which will be here soon.
Im pretty sure that every mod will blow up in a way or another and will need converting or something. So just hold it closed until B19 OR make a special section for old mods. But that would be quite a waste of time anyways. : p

I'm not sure how long it will be before we get build 19 though. For now I'll work on designing it and see where it goes from there.

No really, lol. What a piece of ♥♥♥♥. Yeah, I found the avatar amusing so I put it up. So atleast that way something is up until I make my own. Also since you mentioned joomla is a piece of crap, (which to be honest I like avoiding it though I want what it can do for the download management) what would you recommend as a way to go about doing this. At this point I really want to do this project and it seems like a good idea.

Re: Cortex Command Mod Repository
I'm debating about coding it from scratch though I don't have the time to do it myself. Does anyone have any ideas on a management system I could use for this to speed up the process. If not then I'll have to use joomla for now.

No really, lol. What a piece of ♥♥♥♥. And DJ shows his utter lack of any knowledge of web development languages. It's not exactly a walk in the park. You have to set up a database that stores binary files in the sql server. Then you have to create several scripts that connect to, interact with, upload to, retrieve from, and disconnect from that database. Then you have to include functionality to make it actually useful. DB tables for comments, images, tags, authors, users. I tried to do this over the summer. It is a daunting task, and probably not a task for one individual.

It's not hard. You make the mysql database sound so complicated, when it's not. Maybe coding one that includes comments, ratings, and other ♥♥♥♥ we don't need at all may be hard, but a simple searchable repository is not(ex: garrysmod.org).
