Post Possible Gravity Gun Concept
I propose an Idea put to me by the charming BreenedAndScrooned(whom I credit this to entirely) via MSN.

Would it be possible to use a gun that shoots both negative and positive mass particles, it would then both push and pull on a target at the same time, gripping it in a claw of gravity.

You could then move it about and whatnot.

When Scrooned told me I thought it would just spin whatever it was aimed at into oblivion. Which is cool anyway.

Basically, anyone wanna try this?

Balancing effect will be almost impossible to manage, overwhelming tendency for object to fly in one direction or the other, tracerrounds will not balance it perfectly, it still won't lift objects, etc, etc, etc.

I welcome you to try it though.

I tried this many times.
The shooter is throttle to the point of combustion while the enemy screams hweh a hundred and fifty thousand times and lags the game.
Useless.

I've already made this somewhat.
My PullGun Does this effect and someone changed it a bit and made a push version of it.
Wish my old computer wasn't down.

Yeah, I think someone did that already, plus I've tried it, and yes, it does just shake the target apart basically.

What I would suggest is to make the gun a grenade launcher, the grenade sucks things in when it goes off, but blows up not that far from the player.

More like the portal guns pick up ability, but, it could work.

Anyone still remember my Exorsism gun? : 3

When you kept firing long enough at someones head, it would dramatically plop out and fly sky high at ridiculous speeds... :D

I think i'll revive it once again with a new sprite and effects and all that crap. Was fun watching the poor clones wiggle as they were in a disco or something. x )

I tried to make a gravity gun that fired little 1-pixel homing actors with negative mass rapidly. The idea was that it would essentially change course towards the enemy, hitting it and causing it to move up the stream of particles, and eventually it would end up and the point where the stream deviated from the firing angle.

What actually happened was a shitload of lag.

Which makes a lot of sense, because you're spawning an ungodly number of actors.

Why this will not work:
You fail to take into account gravity. Sure, you can push and pull an object around, but the object will ultimately fall to the ground. Make a vertical particle pusher and then bring this topic back. Also, pretty MSPaint diagram.

for the projectile, Mass = 0
for the 'pull' insane amounts of pull
if it goes UNDER the explosion, it gets pulled back up.
if it goes to high, it gets pulled back down,
if its to far towards the guy with the gun, its pulled away.

1) TDExplosive
2) offset = where you want it to suck things TO, not the place a bullet comes out of.
3) TDExplosive, Lifetime = 0, mass = 0
4) ????
5) Profit (a 1 way Gravity Gun)

now if only we could make it hold the object, then shoot it.
perhaps if we make the gun take wounds that have emitters to reverse the pull... >_>
