Re: Question: Multiplayer?
I really don't see what's wrong with wanting multiplayer. I mean. I want multiplayer. That would be great. In fact, I'd even like multiplayer over decent A.I. You don't need A.I. if you're playing against humans. I mean, LAN itself would be great, but there's not much of a big step between LAN and online enabled multiplayer. I really don't see why you people think it's such a horrible idea.

Re: Question: Multiplayer?
I agree with Lord Tim. Playing with real people is much more satisfying and fun, than playing with computer (even if it have über-mega-hyper AI)

Re: Question: Multiplayer?
YES BECAUSE DATA IS OBVIOUSLY GOING TO OVERCOME THE VERY FABRIC OF COMPUTING JUST BECAUSE 10 PEOPLE ON HIS FORUM THOUGHT HE SHOULD
IT'S NOT A QUESTION OF DESIRE TO DO SO (presumably), IT'S A QUESTION OF IT BEING POSSIBLE TO DO SO.

Re: Question: Multiplayer?
Gmod seemed to have done so (that is, if on a good server).
And since it is all 2d the vectors or something would be 2/3rds the calculation. (eliminated z vector)
But I see where terrain could become a problem, especially on a large map.
But now that I look at it, sending the mat of grasslands (19.9 kb) 30 times a second (acceptable... maybe) along with all the physics calculations, might not be such a daunting task....
... over LAN....
But there is prolly a lot more to it than what I posted, and I can imagine the mat's file size getting (a lot) larger, the more intricate it becomes... Plus you have to send the FG too...
Bah, it is very hard to accomplish LAN, and mebe nearly impossible to accomplish over the web. Though it would be nice If data could find some magical way to overcome this obstacle.

Re: Question: Multiplayer?
Zalo:
Two things.
1. Hardware acceleration. 2. Particles.
1: GPUs. Aid in 3d processing, notsomuch 2d.
2: Gmod, you have what, maybe 300-400 props, and it lags? Even if they're all frozen. CC lags during normal gameplay, when all that it's calculating is TERRAIN. Add in actors, bullets, craft, gibs, emissions, wounds, timers, delays, pinstrengths, plants, gold, terrain upheaval, and on your average frame, there's probably at least 5,000 moving, physics enabled particles, just on a map like grass duel. Then someone tosses in a nuke ( or mapwipe, or groundklearer, or whatever).
The game drops framerate down to maybe 3 fps on such occasions.
AND THIS IS ALL PLAYING BY YOURSELF.
Add in sending all that data over internet, even if Data found a way to fudge it and have physics be calculated clientside, with a serverside particle information list, it just wouldn't work. The game is too CPU intensive to function as an internet game. Unfortunate, but true.

Re: Question: Multiplayer?
I think multiplayer could work, with the proper design.
My idea:
The person or people hosting the game would be stuck playing as the mother brains. Only in MP they could survey the entire battlefield whenever and they would be the only ones capable of sending in a purchase for more units/weapons. everyone else would be soldiers/vehicle pilots, etc. you get the idea. Plus there would obviosly be many different modes of online play besides that, depending on ones preference.
The only problem with MP is supporting a server(s) and having the hardware capable of processing that stuff. Think the nuke mods make your comp lag now? wait till some idiot n00b hacks a server and tosses one during a match and crashes the whole damn thing.
Otherwise, I say MP is a given!

Re: Question: Multiplayer?
THEN THERE'S ALSO THE PROBLEM OF DATA ALREADY SPECIFICALLY SAYING THAT CC WON'T HAVE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER, BUT SURE, MAYBE YOU KNOW SOMETHING HE DOESN'T, ALL HE DID WAS CREATE THE GAME.
Seriously people, voicing your opinions is fine, BUT DON'T VOICE THINGS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN COVERED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH SEVERAL STAGES OF REDUNDANCY.
