I havent actually played "bioshock"
im guessing the winter blast thing is a gun that like, shoots some enemy freezing type thing?
well, you could make something like the concrete sprayer crossed with i-forgot-who-made-it's wand of cold mod.

Is it possible to add lifetime to materials?

If not, is it possible for the "winter blast" grenade to gib a terrain bomb? It would be a bit messy, but...

If you want it to look like you just point your hand at something and it shoots whatever, just make no sprite (or a clear sprite) for it?

Maybe the gun sprite could be a "hand" which is a different color depending on the power?

Light blue/white like ice for winter-blast,

Red and black like fire and burned skin for incinerate..

Blue like lightning for electro bolt..

You get the idea.

Yeah, that would be the best way of doing it.

And for coding purposes, it would be a tiny grenade, not a bullet. But, I'm not too picky about terminology.
