Post Detachable armor plating?
Is it possible to make armor for a rocket or dropship that, after taking a certain amount of damage, falls off?

Basically no, unless you want the whole craft to gib into another one with a different sprite. That might work, but you'd loose the cargo.

Either that or use thrusters, legs, doors etc. as shields but that would kinda screw things up when they got shot off.

no it can be possible because
a drop ship engine can break off after a few shots-so cant you just make armour???

Not really.
You can't add objects beyond what are already available... So you'd have to replace those engines with armor plates. But if you don't have those engines, the dropship isn't going anywhere. And if you make the armor plates engines as well... Then what was the point in the first place?

You'd have a little more success with the Rocket MK1 and its legs... Those are almost entirely useless, so nobody will miss them.

could the concept of building multiple legged actors also apply to this? Instead of trying to add extra legs, adding things that can be blown off without killing performance of the drop ship.

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7618 <=what I'm referring to.

KEY WORD: "CONCEPT"

Did anyone even bother TRYING that? Cause, I imagine if anyone even did, they'd realize how laughably wrong it is.

I'm sure if you made a NEW dropship you could add armor plates. I mean if you can add an engine why can't you add armor. The only problem is that the ships weight would change so it would only work with a rocket because you manually control the balance on rockets........or I could be completely wrong and have no idea what I'm talking about considering that I only have the absolute basic understanding of how most of the code works.

You, in fact, are completely and totally wrong.

But don't feel bad about it, most people on this site are.

This is impossible AFAIK, sure, someone could work out a really smart way to do it, but right now, we just can't.

Many will say "Just add extra limbs" well, that will not work either.

There are 5 types of actors.

ARM

LEG

FOOT

HAND

HEAD

FULL ACTOR/BODY

ROCKET

ROCKET LEG

DROPSHIP

DROPSHIP ENGINE

A dropship can only be made of a dropship and 2 engines, an actor can only be made of a head, arms & legs (with hands & feet attatched) and a body, and a rocket is only a rocket with 2 rocket legs.

No extra limbs.

No taking away limbs.

No compromises.

No excuses.

No detachable armor.

That is the way things are.

I think everyone is forgetting the jetpack.

Assuming you're able to make the jetpack get hit before the actor does, and enlarge it sufficiently (or at least, the nozzle of the jetpack, as that seems to be the only part of the jetpack that's attached to the actor) to actually protect the actor by encompassing the torso /head region, it would be possible to turn the jetpack into a disposable 'armor' ... You probably won't have any jetpack abilities though. Even if you do, the moment the jetpack /armor is destroyed, you lose your jetpack.
