And how do you know that? It may not become commercial after all, because Data may change his mind, or any number of other thing might happen that we cannot forsee.

It's assumed that he's asking what the current plan is, not asking us to forsee the future and say what actualy happens.
If tl;dr :

My dad says that what Data is probably really trying to do is get people to use the cortex command engine in their games.

Re: Will Cortex Command be commercial
right now i think he's trying to get people hooked into playing the game and having a good time while spreading the new about it word of mouth (and internet) so that when its released people already know about it and will really want to get all the new features I'll get it no matter what

He's already said he wants the game to go commercial. Letting other people use his engine would require releasing source code, which just goes absolutely against the principle of a commercial game.

If Data liscenses his engine to others, that's a release of source code ? I'm assuming by 'release' Fuzzo's father meant 'lease' as opposed to 'releasing' into the public domain.
But yeah, release his engine for free ? HFN. If you spent years working on something that drained the very life out of you, occupied all of your free time and absorbed huge fees for web service, can you honestly say that you'd give it away for free ?

Re: Will Cortex Command be commercial
...What happens to us, since we have followed this game since it's conception, do we have to pay when it finally comes out? I mean, that's like Build 19, adding only a few things here and there, maybe canceling out existing mods, cost $10 to download.
Maybe Data can give codes to all people currently in support, and they get the game free. (?)
It just wouldn't be fair to say, raise a child and have the mother(or father, w/e) say "$50 to keep raising it."

No, no, Mr.X, it'd be nothing like that.
Why should we get any extra privileges?
We signed up to this forum as free beta testers. Maybe it wasn't in the user agreement, but, we've been offering advice for months; no conditions were ever stated, and, this far into development, it's a bit late for conditions to be stated.

Yeah, I mean, I'm pretty sure one of us would ♥♥♥♥♥ up and release the game on a torrent or something. This is gonna be commercial, but not in the way that you buy in stores, or a console is developing it. I won't be surprised if it's released simaliraly to Soldat.

I lol'd.
Pay for CC like everyone else, you have no argument of merit worth nearly enough to get you a free copy.

Who would want a free copy anyways? I want to support DATA so that he can develop:
CORTEX COMMAND 2 Revenge of the Skellies
