Discussion on quality control
Okay, I'm changing this topic to a general discussion on quality control.
I propose implementing a trial-by-committee panel of users whos job it is to judge mods before they are posted.
This panel would be nominated and elected by the members of the forum.
Any and all members are allowed to be nominated, provided they are not currently banned from the forums.
Any and all members can vote, provided they are not currently banned.

Nominate and elect me to review mods!
Oh and, this is a really great idea if you haven't noticed, especially with the weapon creator program being made, there needs to be some sort of mod control.

Re: Discussion on quality control
There needs to be a limit on panel size, and protocol on what happens if someone decides to leave without notice.
This is a good idea.

Re: Discussion on quality control
Max five primary panelists, then two backup panelists in case someone disappears for awhile.

Re: Discussion on quality control
This isn't for voting, this is for discussing the concept.
Do not say whether you want to be on the panel, or if you think someone should be on it.
This thread is also not for nay- or yea-sayers.
If you think its a good idea, support your position with thoughts. if you think its a bad idea, support your position with thoughts.

Re: Discussion on quality control
This is good in some ways at it will stop all those people realising a 'new' super guy with 1337 health. But also it could be bad as if one person spends time on a good mod which has been many times before but this is better, the guy might say no as it's just a copy or a remake.
Also if someone makes a mod that the judge doesn't like but they know its very useful to many other people, the Mods forum could be out on a very good mod. Though people should have the right to get a retrial with a new judge.

I agree with this idea Completly. The Mods Forum is getting clogged up with Copys, Bad Re-Makes and Stolen Stuff. We need some kind of quality Control.

Re: Discussion on quality control
How about a subforum for mods voted to be of superior quality? You might anger one too many newbies if they can't post their mods at all.

Like the idea, I'll be a panel member. However, we should have a sub-forum for superior mods, or inversly; a sub-forum for people to post non-approved mods.

That made my day dude. If you really want a quick explanation then here: Do you guys really have the time AND patience to test every mod that gets uploaded?

Re: Discussion on quality control
Everyone starts out small, and having a strict quality control might chase off would-be good modders.
I guess, again, you could have another forum for mods that have been recognized as worthy downloads.
So, in my opinion. Half yea, half nay.

Re: Discussion on quality control
I agree with having a subforum for great mods, but they would start off on the regular mod forum. So that people who DLed the mod would vote a yes or no as to whether it deserves to be on the great mods forum.
If it was up to a commitee as to whether the mod can be in the mod section in the first place, I can see a countless number of problems.
First off is bias, you may say that you won't have bias when your yae-ing or nay-ing mods, but you still will.
There could be a borderline mod, and if some first time newbie made it then it wouldn't pass. But if Amrobotic's made that mod, then it will pass. It won't be fair to new members who need some good feedback on their first time.

So that people who DLed the mod would vote a yes or no as to whether it deserves to be on the great mods forum. You bring up a great way to compromise. My method of thinking was having the review panel block any and all mods that do not pass quality control. On the other hand, we could consider the review panel a sort of -- certification program: Mods that pass the review board get put into a special subforum. Mods that don't get posted in a normal forum that users try at their own risk. Is that a fair compromise, Kokits? Kokits wrote: There could be a borderline mod, and if some first time newbie made it then it wouldn't pass. But if Amrobotic's made that mod, then it will pass. It won't be fair to new members who need some good feedback on their first time. Another valid point. While I disagree that who makes it will influence it, I do agree that some feedback is required. Members of the review board will have to write a written review about why a mod failed. Fairly detailed, too, so that the user can get some constructive commentary. Also fair? numgun wrote: If you really want a quick explanation then here: Do you guys really have the time AND patience to test every mod that gets uploaded? Yes, or we wouldn't be suggesting this. Please don't think that I just thought this up on my own and posted it, in hopes someone would bite. This was discussed thoroughly on IRC, and a fair number of folks agree with this. Every other website that posts mods related to a game has some sort of quality control on content. FPSBanana, Clan of the Dead Goat, ModDB, all of these sites have dedicated volunteer staff to monitor and review these things. I like to think that we have people willing to dedicate some time to this. Maybe you should consider not thinking so lowly of the community you take part in, perhaps.

Re: Discussion on quality control
I really like the having a sub-forum for good mods idea, that way we dont shut out good ideas and yet people will always know where to look for the best downloads. Hope it takes off.
