There are actually quite a few scanners, for the security-conscious, and I think a few of them will actually remove Windows viruses as well. Perhaps that may be of help.

I don't recall if you can install packages while in the Ubuntu LiveCD environment, but there is a scanner "clamav" in the repositories that will work. Try sudo apt-get install clamav in a terminal, then run clamav --help.

And uh, Master Pimp, every OS has viruses... just because there aren't as many for Linux or Mac doesn't mean they don't exist.

But they are essentially nonexistant.

And after running clamav, perhaps you should try a system repair if you happen to have a Windows CD lying around. (guide)

I'm going to put all the contents of the unaffected D drive in the keep folder. Things I have no clue about are going into a zipped folder.

Save most important stuff to CDs or backup hard drives and format that ♥♥♥♥♥. That's what I did when it happened to my computer.

I only need to format the C drive, but i'm backing up both :)

I think that my problem no longer needs assistance, ill go back waiting for the 1 or 3 day ban to end.

Bye bye for now.

Because of the security model used in *nix operating systems. Most internet sites, after all, run on a form of *nix.

Quick Warning here... Some Anti-Virus programs actually download viruses/trojans or allow them access. I lost a compy because I got one off the net... It essentially allowed 5000 trojans/viruses to enter my HD and cause it to over heat... It actually physically broke it.

Also, pix or it never happened.

If you were too stupid to download a legitimate, respected anti-virus, that is your own fault your hard drive failed. See my response in another OMG VIRUS thread.

You all should have your internets piloting licenses revoked.
