Post Big drop CONTEST OVER!!!
PROGRESS ON MK 2: OVER 9000! http://www.datarealms.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=12529

This is my first scene, and it isn't very good (That's why I will make a MK2). It's just a few random platforms high up and a big big drop to a pit below. There is no background because the regular backgrounds look crap in this scene. In MK 2, I plan to make it bigger and make some backdrops.

Thanks to buzzbob for the pic

EDIT1: made the platforms lower down.

EDIT2: removed edit

EDIT3: Contest:1
Requires: Stopwatch
Mode: death
Contest ends: 11/07/2007

slowly descend to the bottom of the map. When you land, start a stopwatch* (link for one above).
Walk across the screen and see how long you can survive without a body landing on top of you!
When you die, stop the stopwatch ASAP. compete in your posts, and the winner gets...erm...yeah.
-You may walk in the direction you wish, so long as you dont change direction
-You may use your jetpack to dislodge yourself from debris
-YOU MAY ONLY USE THE ACTOR YOU START WITH!
-If a clone survives the drop, please dispose of it and continue
-Remember to go on DEATH mode!
-Try not to cheat!

BEST TIMES
1. Charmless - 4 minutes
2. Kazuki - 2:52.23 seconds
3. WAFFLEDOG - 1:42 seconds
4. Me - 58.96 seconds
5. Meleon - 4 seconds
6.
7.
8.

*Should you use any other stopwatch than the one in the link, please inform me.

EDIT5: The contest is over! And Charmless is the winner! (soz kaz I just realized ^^) Any other entrants will be igrnored after today. In other info I'm starting to make MK 2, as you can see up there^

Damn, someone needs to make a sticky...

SAVE THE BMP PICTURE YOU TOOK AS A JPEG.

Bitmaps, (BMPs) are too huge a file. Jpegs, while losing detail, are much smaller.

PNGs, a bit larger then jpegs, keep the detail, but cut down on file size.

Don't whine. If people don't post, they don't care. I'd rather not have people going "lol good mod" because someone complains.

You got rid of the background? Couldn't you just extend the sprite for the background down as far as the map drops to make it look fine?

I think the platforms should be down lower, there's hardly any room to move rockets/ships around in. At one point i had to reload because a few ships had built up, and no more new ships had any room to drop in.

Having the brains up above the map makes the AI always point up, so they practically never shoot. You could just put the brains underneath a platform, that way they'd aim more horizontally.

Oh, and I think the bottom would look better if you just made it the normal dirt with grass on top/concrete/whatever rather than a big solid grey bar.

It's already really fun to play on, though! I like the constant danger of falling down to your doom, keeps you on your toes...
