My guys are called the Salvators and my colour scheme is: Regal Blue for the armour, Chaos Black for the trim, Red Gore for the bolters, ans Scorpion Green for my symbol and eyes.

I named my army the Mont'ka'Els (It meant Knights of The Killing Blow), and I already put my colors.

Hey I thought I added the Tyranids :-(

You most likely typed them in at the end, and forgot that you still have to press the "Add to Poll" button before they are added.

Never played, but I'm exercising my right as an American to participate in any vote I feel like.

Also, I've heard good things about the Tau.

Unfortunately I don't know any rules. But I do have some help if you haven't chosen a race yet.

First, look at every race. Or every race you are considering. Which one looks best in your opinion? Good, thats your race.

Next, choose what kind of colors you want, you can get some models pre-painted, but most prefer to paint it themselves. The color and the race define your army. Are you a servant of Nurgle? Or a dark secretive commander of the Imperium?

More about painting, paint before you put the model together, I painted afterwards and it was really hard to get it all right.

From then on, your on your own.

Its best to find a race which fits your playing style; do you like to swarm your enemies with tons of melee specializing forces (Tyranids are for you) or do you like to have fewer stronger units that specialize in long range (Tau or Imperal Gaurd are good, I use the Tau) or do you want middile of the road stuff (Space Marines are at the higher end but still generalist units). Picking the right race is essental to victory, If you "misuse" a race you run a great chance of failing, for example when I first started playing I used the Tau improperly and let my enemies get too close to my units, thinking they would be ok; I got raped in the game until I changed my playing stragities, now I use the power of the Tau to hammer long range, and let the Kroot attack close in, then there are all the stragities of the XV88 Crisis suits (I'm not going to go into that) and today I nigh unbeatable agianst vurtially who dosen't play "professionally"; so in review (man I ranted alot there) just pick the right race for you.

And before anyone asks "which race is the best?" there is no best. They all have different strengths and weaknesses, for instance;

Imperial guard: Long range units, weak, but come in large numbers.
Necrons: Slow units that come in low numbers, but extremely hard to kill.

Which one would win?*

*Actually, Necrons would win, but.. You know.

ok, starting stuff you need to know. the first part of your turn is movement. most infantry units move 6 inches a turn, while vehicles can move anywhere from 12-24 inches a turn. you don't need to go your full allowed distance. the second part of your turn is the shooting phase. here all of your units that are able to shoot(some weapons cannot be fired after moving(heavy weapons like missile launchers for example) and some weapons only fire at half their range(rapid fire weapons like bolters) and some weapons can shoot normally after moving (assault weapons like melta guns and flamers). after shooting you move on to the assault phase. in the assault phase you units can try to charge the enemy and get in close combat. most units charge range is 6 inches, but some have up to 12 inches. if a unit fired anything other then an assault weapon or pistol they cannot charge.
for shooting you need to roll equal to or above a number determined by your BS(Ballistic Skill). to find the number you need, simply take away you BS from 7(BS=4, 7-4=3 you need 3,4,5 and 6 to hit). after you hit you need to roll to wound. to find out what you need to roll compare your S(Strength) to your opponents T(Toughness). if your S and his T are = you need a 4, 5 or 6 to wound, if your S is 1 more then his T you need a 3, 4, 5 or 6 to wound, if his T is one more then your S you need 5 or 6 to wound and so on.
to hit in close Combat you compare your WS(Weapon Skill to your opponents WS. theres a chart in the rule book you'd get if you bought Maccrage and there is also a chart in whats called an "Order of Battle" booklet you can get for free from a Games Workshop store.
Armour saves are simple, you need to roll equal to or above the number it states(save for a Space Marine is 3+ therefore you need 3, 4, 5 or 6 to save him from harm.

WS:Weapons skill; your proficiency with edged weapons.
BS:Ballistic Skill; your proficiency with ranged weapons.
S:Strength; your strength, how hard you can hit.
T:Toughness; how tough you are, how strong or a hit you can take.
I:initiative; how fast you are, how strikes first in close combat.
W:Wounds; how many times you can fail armour saves without dying.
A:Attacks; how many times you attack your enemy in close combat.
Sv:Armour Save; what you need to roll to stop incoming attacks.
Pts or Points: the cost of that model or unit.

Actually that depends on the tanks the IG is using since they have some of the best in the game, thay might rape the necrons if they have nothing but the more basic units.

and yes those are the basics of the game, after you learn that, its all pretty simple. and don't worry, it's alot easier then it looks.

Posted after 3 minutes 5 seconds:

yeah, if the IG go armoured column (and the Necron don't have a Monolith) they'd most likely win, and if the went Conscript hordes, they would again probably win, due to having so many guys. but if they went Stormtrooper/Kasirkin, it would be a total toss-up.
