Post General Basic Computer Know Hows.
I pretty much want to make my computer better, by adding a graphics card. But I need to know what kind, and if I need some kind of coolant, where to buy, ect.
I also need to know how to, and if theres any good websites or stuff that could tell me.

I know how computers work when their on, just not inside them.
How would I add memory? Ect. Would a GeForce 7600 or so be good for modern games and into the future a bit? Ect.
This seems like a lot of questions, but just give me a website that I could lurk around on it I guess.

By the way, I wasted 60 bucks on a piece of ♥♥♥♥ Geforce MX 4000. Best Buy sucks. : (

Lol, that card is one of the worst cards from 4 graphics card generations ago.

What kind of interface is it, AGP or PCI-E? And can you post the model number/details of your computer? That way we'll be able to know if your PSU can support it.

Also, you probably won't need any water-cooling systems unless you're building your own rig. You can get a decent card (7600GT) for $100 that doesn't even require additional power from the PSU aside from the PCI-E slot.

Can you post the brand/type of computer? Look in the back, perhaps?

Mine was custom made in a local shop. So luckily I didn't get any corporation fatcat bull♥♥♥♥.
Custom made meaning, scrapped together as cheaply as possible. It's a good computer. 350 dollars, but needs more power. D:

I'm digging around in the Device Manager, (control panel, system) and I see ACPI Fan, and PSI Bus, and PCI standard ISA bridge.

Is that of any importance?

Yeah. Just a moment. *digs for screwdriver*

I'm pretty sure I have a PCI.
It was tan color and just one line thing.

So one of the slots in the middle of this picture? That's really going to limit your choices...

Just looking at Newegg (link), I'm just gonna say that your computer isn't exactly a prime target for an upgrade. You'll just get crippled performance with a PCI card, and the cards designed for PCI slots aren't even remotely powerful in comparison to modern cards.

But perhaps that shop could build you a new, pretty capable computer with middle-end equipment for less than $500.
