 Dropping the system requirements.....

Post Dropping the system requirements.....
Okay.. I'm running Dirt on a 500mhz (craptacular) Pc, and it runs... Not that fast, but it runs..

So, I was thinking, is it possible to add an "advanced graphics" menu under the options menu, where you're able to turn on/off specific effects, such as the Parallax scrolling (which seems to be the main cause of the slowdown), and perhaps have a resolution change option (ofcourse, if that works)... It'd be nice when I'm able to run Dirt on my 500mhz PC, and I think some people have to agree on that (besides, I (and many others?) prefer fast gameplay over good graphics)...

Anyways, great game, great idea, great concept.. :) Can't wait to see the next build(s) of it! :)

Good idea. There's no reason graphics shouldn't be scalable even in 2D games.

Well, since DIRT runs (I think) in 320xsomething resolution changes would only cause more slowdown, unless you want to run in 64x64 :P
But other than that, your ideas sound good.

Indeed, as Zylot says, DIRTmaster wanted to go for a 'retro' SNES look, thus he selected a 320x(something I cant remember) texture, your computer most likely is set to 800x600 or 1024x768, some go down to 600x480 but that is mostly for older systems.
May I ask why you seem to be flaming me?

Megagun, yeah we're working on optimizing things so that it'll run decent on even your older system, and also adding graphical detail settings to the menus eventally.

I really need to do some profiling and fix some of the rough performance bottlenecks.. usually it's something unexpected that's slowing everything else down.

DIRT was the orginal name for the game, back in 32AD when game development first started.
