DRL -- Chatroom or Forum?
I'm getting sick and tired of everyone going "lol u r teh awsums." This is a forum, not a chatroom. Slow down, type your posts out, the way the English language is SUPPOSED to be. Please.

Re: DRL -- Chatroom or Forum?
Isn't a forum a chatroom about a specific subject that logs everything as a post instead of a message?

A forum functions much like a bulletin board; users submit postings for all to read and discussion ensues. Contrast real-time chat via talk mode or point-to-point personal email. Apparently forums and chatrooms aren't the same at all.

Go to any five given forums, and you'll see that they all get off-topic so ungodly fast it's not funny.
Try the fanboys-online forum. They have banned three people since existence, we should be more like them.

Facepunch bans a lot of people daily and noone ♥♥♥♥♥es let's be more like them. Also, in a chat room, you are talking in real-time and have to be fast to keep up, so typos are acceptable and are forgiven. But in a forum, you have a lot longer to type up your post, and should read over it. Simple logic.

This is not real-time, therefore you have plenty of time to type out your post and look somewhat intelligent, as compared to an instant messaging system where you have to be fast to keep up.

Idiots reach land - All hope is lost for the nations of the
I don't view any other forums than this one, considering I don't play CC that much, but I do remember how idiotic people were. Even when I type in IRC as fast as I type anything else, I can still make a proper sentence. We really need to make a rule that says "Syntax or don't post at all". It puts a bad image on the forum, and clogs my internet with useless text.

Re: DRL -- Chatroom or Forum?
I see DRL as both. But with a social network.
Forums are common folk.
IRC is regulars.
Simple as that.

Re: DRL -- Chatroom or Forum?
A forum is only similiar to a chatroom to the point that you're communicating with someone and discussing something. In a forum, you got more time to spell out your messages correctly, so that might be a good idea, since that's what people are expecting of you. But then again, a forum is almost 100% text-based, so it's logical that someone makes joke-posts saying stuff like "lol u r teh awsums" (Bad jay, nubs aren't using periods.). Also a note on the smilies: If people have access to them, they'll use them. Even though most of them are ugly(With the possible exception of the "Extra pixel" one) and people might want to use the... Real ones? Something á la >=3 and >=(. And as long as they're there, it's almost logical that people might use them instead of periods, something I find myself doing sometimes. Still, everything starts to suck after a while, such as intended noob-speak, 1337, smilies and text, so my advice would be not to over-use them. Whee, that's all I got to say on the subject. What differs a chatroom from a forum is in my opinion mainly the number of people who are using it, the lack of several sub-directories per room, that you're chatting in real-time, and that you're chatting in one, and discussing in the other.

Here's my idea: Give me banning authority. I don't even want moderation abilities. Just the capacity to ban. Problem will be solved in about six minutes.

Amen.
For the uninformed, it means let it be so.
