Ok, i'm in a big problem, my computer a little while ago froze. One of those freezes that required me to manually force the computer down. Whenever I restart it or turn it on using the buttons on the computer sometimes doesn't start-up correctly, which makes me have to force restart it again. This time it runs some DISKCHEC or something that checks to see if my hardrive was damaged or something and repairs it if it lost any memory, after this it restarts again. It gets to the Windows XP booting screen, but it boots much longer then usual, and then does the DISKCHEC thing again and repeats the process over and over again, never letting me get to the start-up screen to enter my username. Safe mode doesn't even work either as it just restarts itself over and over again also.
I have a legal Windows XP SP2, so nothing wrong with that, and i'm using my other crappy computer that can barely even run Cortex Command to type this.

Are you in safemode?

hit F8 when booting and go into safemode and go to start>run "cmd"
chkdsk C: /F /R /X

reboot and wait

You need to run chkdsk /f in the windows xp recovery console. Do this by inserting your xp cd, booting to it, letting it load, and pressing r to repair your installation with recovery console. It will ask which windows installation, press the number 1, and then type the administrator password, if there is none, press enter.

then type chkdsk /f

let it run, reboot, and post pack.

If this doesn't work your probably going to have to format.

Of course, I never had a problem like that- it seems like an HD problem, so how did your HD get messed up that way?

this has happened to me on my old windows xp

it usually happens b/c of a uber system crash (aka too much cortex command at once so the computer "dies")
just let it run the disk check, it does that b/c the computer crashed. which is fine as long as a virus didnt cause it. just let it do its thing, even if it might take a while.

but on my new windows vista, ive only had to manually restart it once. but when it did that, it didnt run a disk check although it had that green loaing bar going back and forth which i presume was a new disk check look for vista. but maybe not.

most of what you are doing isnt neccissary.

if you have your xp disk you could run a windows repair install, if you do it right it should fix the problems without having to lose data.

This was totally not already suggested. At all.

It happened to me once on my computer the hard drive was damaged I tried reinstalling windows and that didn't work it was damaged to the point that it couldn't format the drive, So I bought a new hard drive. So try reinstalling and hope for the best.
