Need help spending $10,000 :)
No this is not off-topic, you have to read the entire post to see why it isn't off-topic. SooOOoooOooo... we were on a road trip. We stopped at a gas station. We all got a drink and were about to leave. On a whim, I wanted to get a lottery ticket. Not those 10 million ones but the scratch-and-sniff-you-get-100,000-dollars kind. My dad said why not, and he bought it. We had won $10,000. Now he said that I should save the $10,000 for college, but I said no. We compromised by him letting me buy a new computer with the money, then we bank the rest. So, my question is... What's the best computer $10,000 can buy? Tell me all the components and a good estimate of how much they cost. I know that a lot of this is opinionated, but why don't ya'll just tell me what your dream computer is, and I'll just rip off of ya'll.

Tell your dad that 10 grand will only get you maybe a year if you go to school in-state and on-campus.
Allocate 1 000 USD for the PC, then stick the rest in a Certificate of Deposit and let it sit for few years.

You can build an amazing computer for just a couple grand, why go all-out on stuff you don't need, like 11ty monitors?

/agree with thor, save that cash. At max, put 3k into your pc. That should futureproof you for a while, pm me if you want some suggestions.

You're also forgetting that the government takes something on the order of 20% of income won via prizes.
And then you're not going to be getting 10 grand in a lump sum. Its doled out in payments over time--depending on the size of the winnings.
Don't quit your day job, you might et a couple hundred a month

Nicely done, THOR. All you give him is negative news. Anyway, I recently just watched this on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trsGojPXiC8Hopefully that will help you out. And hopefully you won't waste your cash on a computer. In all seriousness, you should do what THOR said - Certificate of Deposit.

my answer? Either a home built computer, quad core processor obviously. and/or a MacBookPro 19 inch screen Save some of it up though you'll never know when you might need some money.

Thats a totally ♥♥♥♥ worthless degree. You've been given an opportunity, Kaz. Save that ♥♥♥♥, invest it, whatever. Put it in something where you will get more money in the long term, instead of spending it all in something that will be obsolete in the next three or four years.

Re: Need help spending $10,000 :)
The deal is that we're not totally relying on that 10,000 to send me to college. And I just talked to my dad and he said I can only spend 2,000. So yeah, that 8,000 is in the bank for some extra college funds.

8 grand alone will not get you anywhere decent.
I'm not just talking about saving it (which is passive). Do something active with it. Put it in stocks, submit a certificate of deposit. Do something.
