This is what i am doing in school, is the OSI model
http://compnetworking.about.com/od/basi ... osimod.htm
There are 7 layers of a network
7 : application layer
6: Presention layer
5: Sessions layer
4: Transport layer
3:Network layer
2:Data link layer
1:physical layer
Each is Rather complicated
7 : application layer
This layer is what you see, Firefox, Windows xp, Programs that you can use.
6: Presention layer
Things that you can view, ASCII,
5: Sessions layer
Like cookies on firefox, Theres Sessions in networking, NetBios (windows net name )
4: Transport layer
This layer is how things are transferd, TCP , UDP
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetBEUI
3:Network layer
ICMP, IP , IPX (router)
2:Data link layer
Ethernet and IEEE 802.11 (wireless) uses packages
1:physical layer
This is the easyest to expain, these are things you can see, touch
Nic's
Cables
Rotuers/Hubs
The types of the 802.11 (b/g/a/n)
Now if you go around and look, And if you can find more examples and details. I would really like that.
