Try This

Or if you'd preffer, the same song, but more scrolling can be found Here if you really distrust me that much. Track 08. Kris Davis. Island of Eden.

Really though, it's just a roundabout way of getting to the first url. Still. Precautions must be made.

And bull♥♥♥♥ of that sort.

If you want something somewhat experimental, I highly suggest you find the Bodysong Soundtrack by Johnny Greenwood.

i would wholeheartly recommend 65daysofstatic... mathcore band from UK, quite dark and building

no lyrics as they don't have a vocalist, however they do some collaborations, and if your looking for lyrics, "the conspiracy of seeds" is dark, builds well, uses the vocalists from circle takes the square (at the end) and starts with a lone violin

EDIT: also, theres a song used in the movie avalon called journey to avalon, it may not be dark enough, but it sure as hell is mysterious (opera singer + orchestra), i used it in a war movie i made and it worked amazingly, extremely epic + building

EDIT 2: allllllssso you might want to check out apocalyptica, they're a four piece cello band who play metallica covers, and they are amazing

Astor Piazzolla – Oblivion

It's a pretty slow build, but it does build, and it's terribly sad.

To be a bit more specific on the genre, I want a kind of orchestral piece, because my project is set during the Black Plague.

turisas could be an idea(they are a "battle metal" band and use accordians and violins) but wouldnt really fit in for slow moody atmospheric (perhaps for combat sequences?)
