 Phalanx Air Defense Turret (now with less suck)

The Phalanx is an anti-missile, artillery, bomb, and aircraft defense system, armed with a Vulcan gatling gun that fires 20mm rounds at 4500 rounds per minute. The idea behind it was pretty much a bullet storm, enough bullets can blow up nearly anything.

HOLY BALLS TO THE WALL


Yep, it's now in delicious mod form. It's placeable as a turret from the bunker menu and dropable from the weapons menu. It's still very heavy, but you can still drop it with a standard dropship with some patience though.

Some things to keep in mind:
    *This is not invincible.
    *This is not accurate to real life. If it was, it would fire three times as fast and the bullets would explode. It would also be able to target things from 140 miles away.
    *No terrain rape. I had to use lua to limit that and the script isn't perfect.
    *This is better at air defense then you could possibly imagine. Set it to sentry AI and go afk.

THAT IS ABSOLUTELY RIDONK

The sprite I cannibalized for the base was something in the sprite dump i had cedited earlier, if you recognize it, tell me :P

I know this is still a heavy WIP but it's mostly because of engine limitations or a lack of knowledge for working around them.

TO DO:

-Make a missile version.

Busy modelling, can't test, but it looks awesome. Do the bullets spread more than in the pic? Or is it pinpoint lazar precision?

You can make it less fragile, depending on what breaks:
-If it's an attachable, you can increase the jointstrength.
Increasing the gibimpulselimit will increase it's resistance to 'flying debris', including impact-based weaponry.

As for the 'spazzing out' part, that happens to other turrets as well. It's the AI, so there's not much you can do about it...

I think that making the bullets spread out more will balance out the mod more. Also, the white dome looks pretty damn big, shouldn't it be a bit shorter? Other than that, it looks awesome.

It was the jointstiffness. I didn't know that it actually did something :P

Anyways, thanks for that and now it's updated. Much less retarded.

The entire functioning part of the turret can be destroyed by throwing a Stone at it.

My forces would greatly appreciate a turret like this that cannot be easily destroyed by a 5 year old.

It's an M61 Vulcan. It's what the phalanx uses.
