Re: DarkStorm Military Technologies -- Updated 12/20/09
I'm thinking more about gliding runs with an assault rifle...sweeet.
Darlos, a quick question, would it be possible to limit the maximum horizontal velocity on the gliders to prevent actors from going into hyperspeed into the nearest wall when you want to glide longer distances? Because there's one thing (among many others) I liked about DarkStorm is the amount of control you get over the characters (jumps, wall cling, wall jump, etc) that allows the player to do some really neat tricks.
Edit: Another question, is it likely to get the Revolver back in the next update? Or some other ranged, short-range, high-powered way to eliminate out opponents? the Pistol just doesn't have enough punch to execute enemies drop-n-pop style.

Remove the banding from those wings and you've got yourself a masterpiece.

Every rifle now has a companion sidearm that uses the same ammo. The 6mm assault rifle has the 6mm pistol (which is the original pistol), the 8mm battle rifle has the 8mm pistol (it's kinda like an M1911 in a way), and the 12mm sniper rifle has the 12mm revolver. It's huge and does as much damage as you'd think. You can even load exploding HEAP rounds into it.

That's sort of silly isn't it? A rifle round in a pistol?

I have no idea why they're called as such, but there is infact, rifle-rounded "pistols." Though they look like seven-inch long AR-15s.

Well yeah but that's not a handgun, that's a carbine. And if it's in a pistol caliber then it's a pistol, but then it's no longer in a rifle caliber, which is pretty self-explanatory.

And when do carbines have seven-inch barrels? Check manufacturer sites even they themselves label them as pistols.

In the case of the P90, it has a companion pistol that uses the same rounds, called the Five-seveN. So, it's a pistol that fires rifle rounds. Weapon terminology isn't always ultra-strict. Past a certain point you kinda just have to say "if it looks and mostly functions like a pistol, it's a pistol." And yes in general round size and mass is scaled up in this mod, from their realistic modern-day counterparts. But its the future where weapons and cartridges are more efficient (so, smaller for the same power) and I assume soldiers are strong enough to handle the higher recoil. I figure I can get away with it.

The MP7 and P90 don't fire rifle rounds, they fire downscaled rifle rounds. Not the same thing. Infact, it's only slightly larger than a .22LR round. But yeah, you could get away with a small futuristic round from the future with longer barrels and a tighter seal for the rifles.

Okay, so PDW rounds aren't rifle rounds, but they're constructed like rifle rounds and are a bit larger than .22 rounds, which ARE rifle rounds? That doesn't make much sense. Unless you're going to tell me .22s aren't rifle rounds. And yeah, I get that they're notably small. I already acknowledged that when I said "small rifle rounds." But a small rifle round is still a rifle round, and your original point was "why would you put rifle rounds in a pistol." You didn't say BIG rifle rounds. Maybe we're just taking each other too literally.

Darlos, I think you have casings and bullets confused. You can have a rifle caliber bullet in a pistol casing, but that doesn't make it a rifle round.

Except the conversation's already established that we're talking about down-scaled rifle rounds, not rifle calibre bullets in pistol casings.

Still, PDW rounds aren't rifle rounds.
