originality
occasionly, i have alook at some of the first pages of mods and annoucments. its interesting to see all the old mods.
unfortunatly, i have found that a lot of mods arnt actually original. if you care to look, you will find stuff that has been done recently. im not sure if the creators of the rip offs are aware of waht they are doing, but as an example: the hyper clone posted recently is very similar to a energy drink clone found way way back.
and no more acid sprayers: one of the very very first mods was an acid sprayer and it is the same quality as remakes. acid sprayers should be banned now. you mnotice no-one gives any credit to the acid sprayer maker 'peanut butta jelly'?
just take a look before you post another remake.

A little extreme, but there is the saying "There is no originality left in the world".
You are going to cop a HELLUVA lot of flak over this.

Yes, yes, yes... we've all heard that the current mods ar'nt original. Deal with it. With the current code, you can't really do a whole lot of crazy stuff.
Oh, Exalion: do you make any mods?

I kind of agree.
This stuff he/she is mentioning tends to cause stagnantion
when everone is just repeating what was already done.
I'm guessing that the majority of reposters are the new ones
so the punishment is too harsh.

It is difficult to think of original ideas that can be implemented in the current build, so we just have to settle with improving and refining ideas that have already been made.
I certainly don't mind seeing an unoriginal mod if it is well refined and an improvement on whatever came before it.

I think that the lack of originality can sometimes be offset by high quality. A lot of mods here just aren't very polished at all. For example, I have VelocityCorp's pack installed. It's essentially just a pack generic pistols, assault rifles, and snipers. But it's very polished, and that's why I like it.
Back on the subject of originality, one problem is that the "original" mods usually happen to be over-the-top in firepower. I agree that it would be nice to see some more variation, but too often the "original" weapons are just a mini-nuke disguised as another weapon.
It would be interesting to see some balanced new ideas.

And that is the goal of EL. Right now we have quite a few unique things in production. I try not to allow things that have been done before, unless it has a new spin on it.

Well. I agree with you, but I agree even more with capnbubs. The idea's are mostly ran out, but there are still great mods and very many variations of each one of them.

I think that the only originality we will be seeing for a while is in different maps.

As I said.
Almost everything is just the same thing with a new coat of paint.

I think it would be interesting if LUA was implemented into the game. In a somewhat similar project, Gusanos, the mods were incredibly diverse simply because of the power that LUA offers.

We don't need originality, we need good sprites and good code, look at the crobo, it's just a robot with a shiny gun yet it's a very popular mod.
