Post Suggestion: Don't let pressing escape close the game.
So many epic games lost... for one reason.

I always press escape to pause the game, and then like you'd expect from most games, I press escape again out of instinct hoping to return to my game. However, CC doesn't work like this. Pressing escape at the main menu closes the game instead of returning to the game.

Please Data, fix this next time around. Make it so escape at the main menu returns to the game.

And as a side note, continue to work on the AI. They're still as dumb as bricks. Oh, and add some melee AI so that they know they have to get close to use their melee weapons. They usually just stand there firing their digger in my general direction or stab the air in front of them.

@Mind: He knows that, he's saying it's a lot different from other games and he does it out of habit.

@OP: Several people have raised this. Time will tell if Data decides to change it or not.

Obviously, but instinctively I still press escape half the time though and close the game. I've never encountered a game other than this one where escape at the main menu closes the game.

Hmm I think I heard enough people now, I'll suggest it to him.
Alt+F4 should be fine with you guys?

I agree but for a different reason. My escape button is broken off. Therefor I must stab it repetedly with a pen until it works. Generally I end up actually getting it to work more than once....and I exit the game.

Alt+F4 already closes the game if you press it twice.

I disagree.
Pressing Alt+F4 is too much of a bother, a double tap on the esc key is just fine.
There should be an ingame pause button instead.

Like the P button. Man that's a crazy idea isn't it?

No no no, just put an exit button on the main menu screen. Perhaps somewhere out of the way like the bottom left corner or something, so you don't accidentally click it. Alt + f4 could close it too, but the button would be nice. Escape should return to the game.

I prefer how it is. When modding, having a single button to double press saves aquite a bit of time when you have to close and open CC about 20 times.

It'd be better if you could just force the rte to be reloaded.

Sounds good.

In just about all other games, esc escapes from the pause menu, back to the game.

While esc escaping from the game menu makes sense, it's more important that it doesn't mess things up in the pause menu, and in CC, for now, the two are the same.

While I'm used to and am fine with the current way things are, I'm thinking for all the future players that will have trouble adapting to CC enough as it is anyway.

I've never had any problems with it and don't get what all the fuss is about, all programs have a quit button now anyway which is what I tend to use and all games also tend to have esc to take you back to the main menu a further press to quit the program doesn't bother me, my own game even uses esc to quit. I've never used Alt-F4 really, unless the application is messing up.

The only times I've accidentally quit is when the games lagging, and like everyone you think "hmmm did it recognise the keystroke?" press it again and all of a sudden it quits to menu then exits. maybe to avoid this you could make it so esc has to be held for two seconds, but I'd probably find it to be more of an inconvenience.

I think this problem can be solved, while also introducing a feature to entice the more office-oriented type:
Make Esc the Boss-Key.

That way you won't lose your game, and it's also a lot easier to put the game to the side.
