Tactics!
Defense against an infinite amount of troops can be tough.
So we, have assembled here, to discuss, ways of keeping our cortex commanding our troops, and ways of slaughtering those sheep we call enemies. HO RAAAH!
First, I normally carve out the middle of my base, so they can't get to my brain from their. Then I clear the roof and crash a BIG ASS SHIP onto it.
Then, I make a fox hole on the right, and we're all good.

I crash my starting rocket to block the silo, then start on a mine from the front door to somewhere behind the base, and eventually block the front door but leave at least one actor inside.

I go for the challenge. I take a single actor, normally a warbot, and go rambo on death. Very fun. It also works quite well, allowing you to defend easily. Just get a fairly good weapon, like the laser cannon, and stand on top of the brain room, and a little to the left, while zooming to see any enemies. If I start getting overwhelmed, I block the brain room with the rocket.

fill a dropship with bombs and bomb two deep trenches, one on each side of the base
only thing to watch out for is when the troops that fall in mass together and start digging underground towards the brain

Buy a dropship, give it an atom bomb and a gold gun, there goes the scenery.

I mostly block the silo with a dropship with which I first deliver a masterchief equipped with a modified beamrifle and go rambo till the end.
And if my poor chief gets a dropship on his head that took out, ill replace him with another.
The good part about the modded beamrifle is that it slices through almost anything and if theres a skeleton digging a hole from low, ill blast him right through the ground.
And when I get enough, Ill drop my elmo with 10 CoADs and blow the whole level into thin air.

1st: I buy a Warbot with a Beam Rifle and a Bolter.
2nd: I put it in the brain vault.
3rd: I block the vault with the rocket.
4th: I buy a Green clone with a Heavy Digger and a Shotgun.
5th: I buy an Armored Clone with another Beam Rifle and a Fuel Rod Cannon.
6th: I start to mine gold with the green clone.
7th: I go Rambo with the armored clone.
After all this I start buying new troops and dropships to crash (killing a few enemies in the way )
If they overwhelm me, I buy a CoAD and there you go

Do you use an unmodified beamrifle? (all heavy and long reload as usual?)

Heres what I do. Buy four Rebel armor suits, place the at all four corners of the base, seal the top with a rocket. Booyah, you are now unbeatable.

At that point, there are too many that aren't controllable at the same time to be worth it for me. One with a cannon, a jet miner, and a heavy machine gun is enough.

Starting robot in the brain-room. One actor with jackhammer shotgun, on top of brain-room, and another actor with LFG, and shotshock on top of rocket-room. No fortifications, except for the corpses of my enemies .

I've found a new method:
Two armored clones : both with bolters, one warbot with a storm bolter
It's tough but possible...
