outline: thin
colour: bluish light dark
Fog of war would be disorienting in
this game. Imagine looking in the wrong direction
while the land behind you was destroyed
and then turning around only to
see the screen refresh with a chasm where you
thought was ground with no idea
of what just happened.
If it must happen then let
it be like soldat except with the
ability to see the area that your
computer controlled allies see
and the ability to buy cheap
cameras that are nothing
more than a throwable object
that gibs into an actor which
provides the ability to watch
unmaned areas of interest.

The outline thing tends not to work too well. Either the bullet goes straight through it or it goes through both sides. I tried it before, and all it really ever did was transport the bullet to the other side of it 80% of the time and just bypass the outer shield 20% of the time.
And about the spell checker thing... spell checkers just aren't reliable. You know that the average IQ of a forum is pretty horrible when we need a spell checker to make ourselves understood. If I'm going to take the time to type with proper spelling and grammar, then I'm going to expect others to at least make some effort to do the same thing, not just click a button and assume that everything will be fixed.
I don't want to start another flame war or anything. Really.

Erm, that makes no sense. I'm a mod. The rules say no chatspeak. So I have to tell people no chatspeak. Why do so many people not understand that Mods have to do Mod work?

"Chat speak is a commonly used way of talking in chat rooms or on AIM. It includes Rofl (rolling on the floor laughing), Lol (laugh out loud), Lmao (laughing my ass off), and many others. Some people get this form of internet language confused with another. This one is called 1337 (leet). Chat speak can also be used as one sentence, such as Asl (age, sex, location.) Many people may use little or no punctuation and may not capitalize their words. They tend to spell words incorrectly and not bother changing them."
It's close to it, but I digress I don't want to break the truce.

you werent in jepordy of breaking it
and i didnt need the info i already know
i use all lowercase because i feel it expresses an emotion
same as how caps means loud or yelling
lowercase can mean not caring or a mellow attitude
(maybe even speaking in monotone )
EDIT: my errors come from typing too fast

Get Firefox 2.0. It has an inline spell checker.
P.S.
I type at a moderate speed and I still don't make mistakes. I can even tell when I make a mistake without even seeing my typing, and I will go back and correct it automatically. Second-nature like. It's an issue of technique and style. Believe me, "i usd to b quit teh caht speeker" and cared more about getting my message in than making sure it was understandable.
//ON TOPIC//
I don't think invisible shields will be fair...
Player 1: You idiot, my AI controlled bot will PWN your clearly unguarded one.
Player 2: You have no idea.
*AI fires and doesn't kill the bot*
Player 1: OMGWTFLOLBBQHAX.
Player 2: Nub.
I DO think we should have a deployable shield. Maybe like an actor-spawning grenade (a la the Vengeful Vegetation seeds, or whatever they're called). That way, it's not all "mega-uba shield hax".
