Post What is the origin of .RTE?
Does anyone have a clue why the folders have a .RTE extention? I know it is used to verify that they are data folders, but why not .DATA then? Has anyone asked Data why?

This has been bothering me.

Urgh, I used to know this, he explained it in a devlog post on the old server, so you can't view it anymore.

And did this question stem from our conversation earlier Galaxy? Either way, I would like to know this, it has been itching at the back of my head for a while...maybe Data (or anyone else with the appropriate info for that matter) will take notice of us ants and zap us with the magnifying glass of knowledge.
(and I was not implying that Data finds us annoying or pests like ants, I'm just out of ideas for better metaphors)

The links weren't there anymore, I wasn't aware that the previous posts still existed.

Anyway, this is what I was referring to, although it doesn't seem to actually say what .rte is but it does explain it's origins.

.ini files are configuration scripts, use in a lot more games/programs than just CC.
