I just started playing/modding CC and saw the 40k thread and figured I'd show you guys the Space Marine and Bolter I made as practice to get the hang of CC. I used the promethus gun as a base to work off of for the Bolter, and the human template for the marine. Like I said I'm new to this setup but I hope you guys enjoy.

i thought you where one of the ones who started the thread,
for being an early mod, this is awsome, and you will be good for this thread.
the rest of this post is un-edited,
and is in the context of this mod being part of the conversion mod, made for that reason exclusivly, by the group on the whole

the bolter doesn't work right.
a bolter isnt a machine gun.
it fires explosive rounds.
your bolter, does not do this... its a modded SMG.
also, the marine has a few flaws.
there supposed to be super-human.
they are not. they are no better than green-clones.
in fact, as i used them, i found them to be USELESS compaired to green clones.
THATS BAD.
you have very much so, NOT STUCK TO CANNON.
space marines are supposed to be 9 feet tall. fix that.
the space marines from 5 years ago and earlyer are ugly as sin, base the sprites moreso off of current moddels or even use screenshots from dawn of war.
the bolter looks okay, although thats the only thing from older editions that i liked (you know, the boxy things that have the black and yellow hazard stripes covering the slide, and at the base of where the clip goes?) but as far as for a game goes, yes, the old one is *sigh* ugly, so for spriting, the bolter is great.
i'm not going to compleatly bash this, you put some work into it.
the sprite, while yes, the spriting was well done.
unfortunalty i think its well done crap.
it doesnt look like a current space-marine.
it looks like a shrunk-down, chubby, rubbery terminator, re-done for lilo & stitch.
NO.
the bolter. while yes, its all shiney, and looks like its rubber, it matched the space marine you made, and looks nice in game.
kudos.
i suggest makeing it look a bit less rounded and bubbly and your gold...
hell, you'd be platinum if you got that part right.
next.
the bolter isnt a friggen re-sized SMG, its a HEAP based smg.
high-weight, rapid fire, explosive rounds.
first of all, for the explosive rounds.
look at the R.A.M. mod (its one of the robot mods)
it look at the bigger gun included with that mod (not the pistol)
that functions exactly like the flavor-text for the cannon material (chapter approved)
that gun, is closer to being a cannon bolter, and its not even named the same.
study the code in that for a bit, and re-work the ammo for this one...
next, the bolter is supposed to be HEAVY AS F***
notice, that guardsmen, you know, normal humans, cant pick one up most of the time, let alone hold it in one hand (like a space marine does)
they mount bolters on vehichles as heavy weapons.
and sometimes use heavy-bolters as a gun-emplacement.
HUMANS CANT LIFT THEM.
so make the guns to heavy to be held and still stand.
clones should be crushed onto there backs, from having a normal bolter equiped, with NOTHING ElSE IN THERE INVENTORY.
bolters are supposed to be that heavy.
space marines are super strong, and can carry 2 bolters,
make the space marines strong enough for that.
space-marines are 9 feet tall, the average human is 5.5 feet tall.
therefor space-marine : green clone should be 9 : 5.5
last i checked 9/5.5 =/= 1/1
re-size, re-strengthen, re-weight, re-draw, the space marine,
re-weight the bolter,
re-weight, and re-code the ammo and magazine.
touch up the sprites for the bolter.
if you can do that,
not only will this be true to the cannon, and balance-wise be equivilant to CC chapter aproved,
but it would be on par, quality-wise to CC itself,
you'd have sprites as good as standard w/o mods, and be balanced to 40K rules,
which could be fun.
also,
re-work the gold cost.
since you normaly controll clones, (equivilent to guardsmen)
you should have the ratio for guardsmen to space marines to determine the cost?
so... grab an imperial guard codex, and a space marine codex,
figure out, model per model,
the max number of guardsmen for a maxed army,
compaired to the max number of space marines, in a maxed army.
figure out how many guardsmen per space marine,
multiply that by the cost of a green clone.
poof. there's a balanced gold cost.
do the same for bolters compaired to AK-47s and SMGs.
if you make a heavy bolter, balance it to the flack cannon....
anyway...
over all.
as far as sticking to cannon, you messed up.
as far as makeing a good mod, it was average, so you just squeeked under the good mods category.
as for makeing a working mod, you succeeded.
as for makeing good sprites, you did good, the sprites, as sprites i give a 4/5
the sprites as what there supposed to be i give a 3/5
you did better than all the un-shaded CRAP that i saw arround b13 &14, but your not true to cannon.
i'm very big on if your gonna do a mod to make something else, make it true to cannon.
bolter rounds are explosive,
death-coil heals undead,
marines in starcraft do NOT have shotguns,
there is no such crap as the all-spark,
bumblebee was a friggen VW Bug,
the movies for Eragon, Starship Troopers, series of unfortunate events, and harry potter ALL SUCKED.
warhammer 40K has a HUGE fan-base.
trying and failing at it....
its one of the worst things you can do.
you would be laughed out of the internet if you dont get it peftect.
i dont want that.
i'd rather see you come out with a near perfect re-creation of 40K in side-scrolling platformer form, than see you just barely miss, butcher some parts, and watch every post you make get flammed.
when you finish this mod, and its submited for review,
if its not better than what you posted.....
even if it gets approved, every fan of 40K will just bash the hell out of you, and point out EVERY FLAW, and make there attempts at something better,
which will probably be better sprites, or at least more accurate to cannon sprites, (which so far the true to cannon stuff was all solid-color, un-shaded CRAP)
and yes, it will be more true to cannon, but the code will be CRAP because every 40K junkie will try, and fail.
and we'd have a flood of 40 thousand posts of 40K stuff.
(40K posts on 40K, that was the point.)
and you know. even if anything good came of that, it would be lost in the flood.
although yes, if you apply yourself to sticking to cannon and codeing,
as much as you did to anal-retentive detail to shading, then you can do it.
but be warned.
you and everyone helping will have to work your asses off.
i suggest doing it 1 at a time. (IE space marine, bolters, melta, flammer, as one mod, then make new mods per unit)
if you wanna make something realy cool,
play with the weights for it,
and make a new drop-ship,
make a thunderhawk gun-ship.
or at least a drop-pod that doesnt kill what it lands on (bunkers, dropships, and map included), or bounce like a pin-ball if it hits a contact grenade.
