EVENTS:

Peggy: "Ugh, okay, you-"

CLUTCH 1 UNCLUTCH-

CRUNK.

Peggy: "Girl if you wreck my truck's transmission I'm gonna be mad. Siiiiiiiigh.

Okay so. The clutch, it disconnects the wheels and the engine. If you switch to any gear while you're stopped, the friction is just gonna kill the motor. Here, let me-"

She pulls the gear stick to the center of its travel, until it's not pointing at any of the numbers or letters, then turns the engine back on.

Peggy: "Okay, we're in dead center mode, so the wheels aren't gonna try to turn. Now what I want you to do is, step on the clutch all the way down, okay? Then, switch to first gear. Then, step on the accelerator just a bit, and SLOWLY release the clutch, not all the way. You lift your foot just enough so that the truck starts moving, then when we're at a good speed, release it fully."

"Oh. But, they can't all be dead. I mean, we're here. We're alive."

EVENTS:

Eigla follows Peggy's instructions. As she begins to slowly release the clutch, the truck starts going forwards.

Peggy: "Okay, you got it going. Now, first gear is slow as hell, so you're going to want to change. Press down the gas a bit, until you feel the engine start to struggle. Then, this next part you gotta be kinda fast to pull off: Step hard on the clutch, switch to second gear, then unclutch quickly."


Meanwhile, Curie narrows her eyes at Malia once again.

Curie: "Unusual. You seem to be quite comfortable with having snakes for arms, yet have no knowledge of zombies. And, your sudden appearance in the middle of nowhere is still unexplained."

EVENTS:

Eigla quickly does a clutch-change-unclutch combo, and the truck suddenly picks up speed. Somewhat unexplainably, she feels more connected to it, as if some sort of hidden truth had just been revealed to her. Peggy pats her head.

Peggy: "Second gear feels good, right? You might want to do the same to get to third if you want to go faster, but don't overdo it. And if you wanna slow down, go back to first. If you actually stop, though, keep the clutch pressed then disengage the gear lever, or the engine will die.

...Now I'm gonna sleep. Good night, and good riddance."


Meanwhile, Curie nods.

Curie: "Correct. That is a very real possibility. Unit does not know who would be interested in disrupting our travels, seeing as the meatblob is hardly capable of strategic planning. Still, Unit will remain on the lookout for any unusual activities from this newcomers, and advises you all to do so as well."
