EVENTS:

Curie: "Unit has received cleaning, maintenance and an adequate amount of sustenance. Situation is rated as pleasant."

Klimt answers Rosa's question in a deadpan, unamused tone, surprising her a bit. Is he okay?

TOUR - START!

Désirée leads everyone into the elevator, and several floors down. You arrive at a series of large rooms filled with looms and machinery, being operated by zombies of all sorts. Tentacle-operated cranes drop large bundles of tanned leather onto workstations, where razor-armed undead cut and sew it into aprons, armor, and other simple items. The zombies here seem to be slightly better conserved than those in the other wing, with metal ports on their abdomens for feeding, instead of open wounds.

Désirée: "The textile wing! Most clothing in the factory comes from here, and we even export a bit. Mostly leather, but I've also started domestic cotton production, as you can see by the looms. Oh, and I have recently acquired a particularly good tailor. Allow me to introduce you!~"

She leads you into another room, this one considerably darker. Through the gloom, you see a huge, spindly figure chained to a wall, dozens of long mechanical arms tirelessly working on a Désirée-sized silk dress.
The lights come on, and the figure looks at you curiously, its face a serene porcelain mask. Long spools of thread line the walls, and you realise the creature's lower abdomen has been replaced by a huge glass sphere, wherein crawl millions of large spiders. Tendrils periodically enter the sphere, drawing small pieces of web into to be processed inside the seamstress's body.

Désirée: "Charlotte, my dear, we have visitors! And they seem to be lacking proper attire, you see. Certainly you'll help them, won't you?

Go on, friends! No, don't worry about it! It's a little gift for you. Certainly you'd rather have some more comfortable clothing than simple bathrobes. Charlotte can certainly sew whatever you can think of. Oh, and I can certainly arrange something for Emilia as well, Klimt~"

Curie: "Unit requests clothing suggestions. Unit's database does not include army-approved attire for its current form."

"Kimono. Flowy, big sleeves.
Curie should have a cloak. Unsure for normal clothes. Fatigues? Not too military looking. Functional clothes."

"Could I have an old soldier's uniform? Something like they would have worn in Le Refuge. And a big camouflage parka, for keeping off the rain.

Emilia should have some functional fabrics - a nice jumpsuit, with slits and expansion features that won't constrain her lungs."

EVENTS:

Eigla's simple uniform and jacket are the first to be made, and fit her perfectly. Even the shoes are comfortable on the first try, and the jacket has side slits to allow for easy access to her sword and shield.
The letters "CHIAKI" are printed on the inside of a sleeve. She wonders what they mean?

With the help of Curie's database, Klimt describes the standard uniform of Le Refuge's military. Charlotte produces a slightly modified version, with wide sleeves to accomodate his tendril hands, a weatherproof parka, and quick-release zippers so he doesn't immediately destroy his clothes whenever transforming.

Rosa's kimono turns into a magnificent piece, embroidered with floral motifs and complete with a set of hair needles and ribbons for all seasons. It is slightly looser than she imagined, but still exceedingly comfortable.

As Charlotte is carefully adding a red silk rose to one of the sleeves, Rosa notices a small set of letters, hidden away on the edge of a petal.

DO NOT TRUST ESCAPE

Soon after, they're covered over with more thread.

Curie receives a long, loose shirt and cloak, split at the back to allow her extra heads to breathe. It looks a bit strange, clinging to her moist, wrinkled braintorso, and even Charlotte looks a bit unsatisfied. Curie does not seem to mind, however.

As the seamstress begins working on a rather involved expanding suit for Emilia, Désirée claps her hands and smiles proudly.

Désirée: "Marvellous choices, mons petits! Why, you look positively dashing. Such variety, too. I admit, I'm a bit partial to loose dresses, but now I've gotten an itch to try a kimono myself.

Well, there's still much to be seen. Shall we be going?"

EVENTS:

After a quick walk back to the elevator, Désirée activates the DNA scanner and you're on your way. This time, the elevator goes to the very bottom of the compound, though with pauses to avoid the nausea of your previous ascent.

A few minutes later, you stand upon an enclosed glass observatory, overlooking a massive cave. The floor below is a bog of thick black slime, peppered by huge masses of brown mushrooms. Stilt-legged creatures shamble through the darkness, harvesting the fungi and loading it in conveyor belts. Every few seconds, a large glob of corpses and sewage falls from a pipe in the ceiling, being quickly spread around by shovel-wielding zombies.

Désirée: "Well, here it is, the heart of the factory. Fungi really are amazing creatures, you know. If it weren't so hard to convince zombies to eat anything but raw meat, we could practically do away with everything aboveground!

Everything the pigs can't eat falls down here, and the mushrooms convert it into protein. It is then piped up to the grow-out wing, and mixed into our livestock feed slurry. Oh, don't worry, don't worry, not what we had for lunch. My personal animals are grown on a much more sanitary diet. This is fit only for the hordes, and other scum.

Oh, we also harvest the swamp gas, and it helps fuel the ovens and generators. Though, we still have to pipe some oil from the outside to make up for all we burn. Hopefully that will change in the future!"

The tour continues, and the group leaves the harrowing abyss behind.

A few minutes later, you stand in the middle of a production line. Rows upon rows of zombies stand by workbenches, repetitively chopping at bloody chunks of meat. Muscular, ogre-like undead pull the carcasses of giant pigs from moving hooks in the ceiling, then dismember them with rusty cleavers and bonesaws.

Désirée: "This is one of our chopping stations. Meat is cut into standardized sizes, then sent to the smokestacks for drying and preservation. There's also other areas where we produce mincemeat and slurries, depending on what the Master's forces currently need. I would have liked to show you the abbatoir as well, but it's a bit of a dangerous area. The male hogs can get rather violent, on occasion!"

____________________________

A tram leads you through a vast, enclosed warehouse. Huge swaths of cotton, wheat and other assorted grains and vegetables are grown hydroponically here, under the powerful red glow of arc lamps.

Désirée: "And here we have one of the enclosed growing areas. A pet project of mine, in more ways than one. It was very hard to teach the zombies agriculture, trust me!
Initially, it was just for my own consumption, but now we export quite large quantities of cotton sutures and bandages."

____________________________

A large loading dock lies before you, with rusty cranes loading large metal crates on the back of armored 30-wheelers. A convoy seems to be leaving, heading into the bowels of the dark tunnel ahead.

Désirée: "This passage is our connection to the outside world, and it also means the vehicles are safe from the sandstorms. If needs be, we can also send crawler trucks to the South, but that's a much rarer occurrence. Once or twice a year, perhaps.

Defending the convoys is one of the main reasons the factory has so many guards. It's quite a violent world outside, and there are many beasts who try to defy the Master's rule."

____________________________

A little while later, you are at the very top of the facility. Sunlight filters through the thick glass panels on the ceiling, giving life to a large orchard. Deep red apples, rich grapevines, a few unknown fruits. Strange pollinating insects buzz around the place, while butler zombies keep the hedges pruned and the flower gardens watered.

Désirée: "This is one of my favorite places! Can you feel the soft aroma of the strawberries? It was quite an odyssey to obtain the seeds for most of these. Why, I- Oh good, we've arrived~"

A large rug is set on an open space amid the garden, with a circle of divans and soft pillows. In the middle, there's a large cluster of low tables, with a veritable banquet upon them. Pre-cut pies, entire roasted hogs, bowls of juicy purple grapes and other fruits, as well as a selection of meat and pasta dishes. A small army of maids surrounds the area, bowing to welcome you.

Désirée: "I thought you'd like to stop and rest awhile~ Terribly sorry for the small variety of meats, I had this prepared on a bit of a short notice. Shall we sit down and have a chat under the afternoon sun?"

"What... would you like to talk about?

This place is a wonder. I thought every last scrap of civilisation had been blasted away, when I woke up. But yet there's still sort of an economy - you make exports, the armies are active and doing something. So things are changing, still. It's not all a dead waste."

EVENTS:

Désirée lies down on a few of the pillows, letting a maid hand-feed her grapes and strawberries.

Désirée: "My dear, of course it isn't. The Master has plans, and needs the world alive to see them through.

I am a bit sentimental, I admit. Most others are not very concerned with the simple pleasures and comforts of human life, but we all keep walking forward one way or the other.

In part, that's what I wanted to talk about. You don't seem to know much about the Master's rule, so I doubt he's the one who woke you up. My curiosity is piqued. Just who might you be, really?

Now go on, help yourselves! Don't be shy! I had this made just for you, after all~"

"I think he did wake us up.

There is an arena, a stadium in the south, where a girl slaughtered hordes of the dead and it was recorded for someone's interest. She said she killed them for the Master and received supplies regularly by truck. Hundreds of zombies flooded up from storage below the building. We woke up at the same time as the others, and fought our way out from the reach of the mindless ones. It's purely an accident that we weren't killed for his viewing too.

It seems the south is cursed, maybe not touched by the Master's authority."
