The screen lights up again, this time displaying a monochrome model of Emilia. The lungs are highlighted, with a proposed synthetic patch replacing the torn lower ones. Similarly, the back of her skull is removed, and a bundle of organic tubes connects it to a large lump of grey matter on her back.

Well. That sure is... Unique.

EVENTS:

A zombie orderly walks in, carrying a large sheet of rubber-like material, and the machine starts working on patching Emilia up again.

It takes a while, but the process seems complete. Emilia's back and abdomen are a little more distorted than before, with dark rubber bellows that inflate and deflate rhythmically. Her breathing seems to have stabilized, at least, and the sickly wheezing sounds are gone.

PROCEDURE COMPLETE. SETTING PATIENT TO OBSERVATION AND BED REST.

...Hot damn, Emilia is pretty messed up on the insides. The robot spends a long time removing staples and decayed stitching, then suturing tissues back together in an approximately correct shape. She looks a bit less stretched and constricted now, though her scars are still large and many.

A light flashes red on the screen, marking an area on her abdomen. Oh dear. One of those could be hard to find, even if it's not exactly vital.



Meanwhile, Désirée looks down wistfully.

Désirée: "Le Refuge, you mean. It was the capital of this area, before it became the Wastes. I lived there for some time, but it... Burnt down, shortly before my death.

I, would rather not talk much about it, at least not during lunch. It's... Not a happy story, and I still haven't gotten over it entirely."

EVENTS:

The robot retracts into the ceiling, leaving Klimt alone with his minion. After several minutes pass, she stirs and shivers, looking at him through half-opened eyelids.

Emilia: "Hhhhh... Hm?"



Meanwhile, the rest of the group gets up.


Désirée: "Oh, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully your rooms will be to your liking, as well. I'll see you this afternoon~"

The group is guided by their maids, ending up in a small, cozy corridor with several mahogany doors. One of them has a metal plaque with 'KLIMT' engraved onto it, while the following ones have 'ROSA' and 'EIGLA', respectively. An Engineer Zombie has removed an older-looking plaque from the following door, replacing it with a blank one and then using his multitool to carve 'CURIE' in fancy lettering.

EVENTS:

Rosa enters her room, followed quickly by Eigla. The latter's maids look moderately confused, but soon make up their minds and go in as well.

Climbing down onto the pool together, the girls finally have a chance to relax. Eigla finds it disquieting at first, especially when she moves, but Rosa helps her situate herself. The gunner feels right at home in the water, splashing around almost playfully.

The maids approach expectantly, as if waiting for orders, while carrying back scrubbers and bars of soap.



Meanwhile, Emilia meekly extends her hand, caressing Klimt's face.

Emilia: "I... You protected me... I, I can't remember how, or why, but- I'm sure you did. I love you, Master.

I feel... Weird. It hurts, but less, and not in the same places. I'm sorry. I only cause you trouble."
