Klimt: "Nothing too fast."

He tries to give Peggy a friendly forehead kiss, but she grabs him by the neck and steals his lips, going full smooch smooch mode for a moment, then backing off.

Peggy: "I love you, Klimt. Be my husbando. Forever."



Meanwhile, Eigla does her best to remain calm. Her injured hands are gnawed by boundless Flesh, ready to burst forth at a moment's notice.

Eigla: "Nice teeth."

Her level voice seems to confuse the creature, who stops approaching and cocks its head.


Rosa, walking through the fields and searching for her Shield, comes upon a terrible sight: Eigla, standing on the edge of the forest, surrounded by a pack of wolves!

Oh no!!!

Peggy's face turns into her signature scowl.

Peggy: "Whaaaa? Are you dumb? I-I mean. Just because your body doesn't age, doesn't mean YOU don't. I don't know how old you were when you died, but look at the world now!

How long do you imagine it has been?"

EVENTS:

"You're right. You're right. I'm not facing reality. It must have been many many years. That word can't apply to either of us anymore.

I feel both young and old. It's unnatural. I'm delusional."

Peggy shrugs.

Peggy: "I was... Almost eighteen when I died, I think. Dunno how long it took for them to wake me up after that.

The other dead are weird. They, don't count the time like we used to. Like it didn't matter anymore. I don't know which year it is, but... I saw five winters while serving the Master, then three more alone in the wastes.

Mary keeps saying she's an old lady. I wonder how long she's been around."




While Rosa watches from afar, Eigla questions the Howler, hoping it can understand her words.

Eigla: "Do you hunt any of the deer with tumors? Or just leave them alone?"

The creature looks at her for a long time, the other wolves suddenly silent. Its inner skull peels back as well, revealing a throat with far too many tongues and vocal cords. It speaks with a strange voice, like a parrot trying to mimick human speech.

Howler: "Pack, hunt deer, Kill. You, hide, bait deer, hunt us. We run. You strong.

You, alone, not strong. Pack hunt."

EVENTS:

Peggy: "Are you, though? I mean, your arms. Someone has to have given them to you, right? Like, to fight with. We aren't changed for no reason.

Do you remember anything? Between dying and waking up this time, I mean."

Klimt strokes her cheek, prompting her to smile before playfully biting his finger.




Meanwhile, Eigla nods.

Eigla: "Makes sense.

How about a deal. My friends stop hunting you, and you stop hunting us. To pay back for us hunting you, we will hunt ten deer for you."

The Howler wags its tail, a strangely endearing act for such a distorted beast.

Howler: "Ten deer, yes. At the nest. You, not hunt pack. Pack not hunt you. Three suns."

The wolves begin to back off, and disappear into the woods. The howler is the last to leave, its head closing once again into something that could pass for a normal wolf's.

EVENTS:

Peggy nods sagely, a hand on her chin.

Peggy: "Hm, hmmm. Do you remember what you did, after that? I, uh.

I won't lie. Before they cut my head off, my time serving the Master was not too bad. I got to to drive this big armored truck, and there was plenty of food.

Some times I wish I could go back. Are you going to try and meet the Master? It's why you're traveling so far, isn't it?"



Eigla walks back toward the farm, meeting Rosa crouched on a hill, weapons at the ready. Seems like you weren't alone in dealing with the wolves, after all!
