No computer. You find your black powder revolver though, the 6 shots still loaded. A cheap stand-up wardrobe is in your bedroom with school uniforms. An electronic radio clock is on the nightstand near your bed. There’s a desk in your room, too, a good place for a computer if you had one.

Checking out the rest of your house, you locate a washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer combo, microwave, toaster, and an analogue wall clock.

No television. Seems like you’re gonna need to find a way to entertain yourself.

You go outside and check the area around your house.

A tiny front yard and a small backyard, but there’s space for a clothesline and a small garden. A tiny shed the size of a closet is in the backyard as well, though it’s empty.

You have a mailbox, too. Looking inside, you see you have an envelope.


Looks like a short letter from the Lindenburg Board of Education welcoming you, and reminding you that your house’s costs (utilities, etc.) are covered by the city.

Also in the envelope is a check for this month’s Student Allowance - 20,000au. Neat.

Well, you think you remember that you’re supposed to get a check in the mail every month for like, 20000 au?

Checking out the aisles, you see that cans of food are about the cheapest things here. A can of vegetables is 80au, and a can of pasta in tomato sauce is 100au.

Well, you can also get a 100au box of pasta (8 servings) and a 100au jar of tomato sauce (8 servings), but that would also require a pot to cook with, and probably a bowl, olive oil, and some utensils. Cheaper in the long run, but not in the short.

A bag of frozen peas-and-carrots (4 servings) is 100au, could just chuck that into the microwave. A frozen dinner costs 150au.

What's it to you?

Your head feels hot and your vision darkens. Sounds of steam and engines roaring blare out from nowhere, and blurry images of a mechanical monster powered by fire flash before your eyes. A monster of great strength, consuming things around it to grow even stronger.


Blinking your eyes, your vision clears and you return to the ice cream parlor. Right beside you, sitting on the ground, is a large steam-punk mecha shaped like a monstrous hippo. Steam gently blows out of its metal nostrils.

Somehow, you know that it belongs to you.

While you help the girls prep the ingredients, you glance around the house. It’s fairly barebones - the kitchen, dining room, and living room are basically different places in the same room. A hallway nearby has two doors on the side (bedrooms probably) and a bathroom at the end. A closet near the front door, and another closet near the backdoor that serves as the laundry room.

With three people helping, it’s only a short amount of time before two trays of cupcakes go into the oven.

Amelia: ”So, according to the serving guidelines in the recipes, we have enough materials to make about… One-thousand three-hundred servings.”
