The Dawn-Lit group (Langley, Danny, Rana, and Rhea) gather at the meeting table, along with a skunkhair kid (Lance).

Langley: "O-okay! So, Dawn-Lit, there's something very important about the school, that Rhea and I just learned about! The upperclassmen are going to, um, announce it soon too. B-but, I thought we should let you all know about it first.
So, the second year who talked to me, that I mentioned in Literature, the one who said that... that all the upperclassmen died, and that there's Dates where weird things happen. I-I think he wasn't lying after all. He said that today was a D-Date, and that all the books turning French was the effect this time. I-I mean, it still sounds crazy, but that isn't all!
There was the other upperclassman girl too, w-we met her in the second floor hallway. I was going to tell her off for, um, being mean before, when I met Tommy. But, she... she used magic. She, she made a shield appear on her arm, in a flash of light! She said the shield was an Artifact, a-and that every Date leaves behind an Artifact that has powers related to the Date! Which means there should also be one related to, um, French? Or books maybe? I-I don't know how this works exactly...
B-but the point is, I don't think Tommy was lying anymore! I think there's something, something going on at this school! A-and it's happening right now, and going to happen again in the future!"

Danny: "I don't mean to insult you or anything, but what have you been smoking?

Hold on, you do have a witness. Rhea? Really? Magic ♥♥♥♥? What kind of institution have we found ourselves enrolled in?"
Male, Eyes: Grey, Hair: Light Brown, Skin: Fair, Body: Robust-Average, Height: Average

Langley: "I-It's true! I know it sounds crazy, b-but it is!"
Female, Eyes: Hazel, Hair: Auburn, Skin: Pale, Body: Thin, Height: Average

Skunkhair (Lance): "Really, are you daft? Dates where people just up and die? Magic? That doesn't make any sense."
Male, Eyes: Hazel, Hair: Black/White, Skin: Light, Body: A bit Muscular, Height: Tall

Langley: "I-I know it doesn't! It sounds crazy, but, I saw it with my own two eyes!
Rhea, help!"
Female, Eyes: Hazel, Hair: Auburn, Skin: Pale, Body: Thin, Height: Average

Rhea: ”It sounds hard to believe, but it really happened. The upperclassman held up her arm, a flash of light, and suddenly a golden shield was on her arm! And when she was walking away, it faded out of existence too!”
Female, Eyes: Green, Hair: Bob Cut/Black, Skin: Light, Body: Average, Height: Short

The bell rings, signaling the beginning of Lunch. There’s not a restriction on where students can be during the lunch period, but the food isn’t served until the bell has rung.

Tables and shelves are full of conveniently paper or plastic wrapped sandwiches, and plastic containers of fruits, vegetables, pastas, meats, and other foods. Not gourmet, but not bad.

Against one of the cafeteria walls is a miniature stage, with a mic stand and mic.

After a minute or two into Lunch, a brunette walks on to the mini-stage and over to the mic. After giving it a tap to confirm that it’s on, she speaks.

Brunette: ”Hello?”
Female, Eyes: Brown, Hair: Long Brown, Skin: Light, Body: Average, Height: Average

Most of the students turn their attention to the girl, who then seems to be struck with a sudden case of stage fright.

Brunette: ”H-hello! Welcome, again, to Westview High! I’m Maria Summers, Second Year student. To, uh, cut to the chase, I’m sure you’re all confused by all the books being in French. You see, this school has a sort of, well, a series of events that go on where weird things happen, we call them Dates, because we can sorta predict what days they’ll occur.”

There’s some quiet chatting amongst the First Years.

Maria: ”Whenever a Date happens, it leaves behind an object of some sort, an Artifact, that is related to the event. These Artifacts can seem magical and many have useful effects, but they often have some danger associated with them.”
Female, Eyes: Brown, Hair: Long Brown, Skin: Light, Body: Average, Height: Average

Muffled laughter here and there.

Maria: ”If you discover something that you think might be an artifact, you should bring it to the club building. I’m not sure if you’ve seen it yet, but it’s across the track field and pool. It was the old school building, now used for club rooms. Third floor, room 5, is the Eastern Magic Society club room, that’s where you can bring artifacts.”

The laughter gets louder.

Maria: ”Now, I’ll try to do these announcements every day at lunch, mainly to announce the next Date. The next one is… Tomorrow.”

Snickers, an occasional food item being thrown and missing. Maria seems to be looking for someone among the students, and it seems like she spots whoever it is. Soon enough, a taller girl with long, black hair and blue eyes steps up to the stage and Maria lets her take the mic position.

The black-haired girl lifts her right arm up for the audience to see, and in a flash of brilliant yellow light, a golden shield materializes over her forearm while divine flames blast outward from the stage, several students screaming from the expectation of being roasted. Of course, no one is actually hurt.

Once the new girl has everyone’s attention, which only took a split second, the flames die down.

BlackhairGirl: ”These Dates used to be restricted to the school grounds and students of the school. However, when I went to check with the town library for books, they told me all of their books were suddenly translated to French.

The Dates are on a larger scale than before. Staying home will not protect you, but that should also mean you can find artifacts elsewhere. The game is not limited to the school grounds anymore, nor is the location of where you might die.

That is all, enjoy the rest of your day.”

The shield fades out of existence and the black-haired girl steps off the stage and strides out of the cafeteria.
