After taking the three gold from Horoma, your party enters the house.

It’s well-furnished, with a living room ahead, some general-use room to the left, and a staircase to the right.

The four of you head upstairs, finding four bedrooms and a washroom. Picking the bedroom closest to the stairs, you head in and close the door.

Setting the coffin down, you sit with your back against the bed and relax.

Concentrating on your own soul, you focus on feeling how it works, flexing here and there until you think you’ve found your own possession. It’s difficult to maintain a view of, so to speak, but after Meditating with 5 mana, it becomes a bit more clear.

Your meditating not only improves your awareness of yourself, but of your surroundings, hearing light footsteps heading downstairs.

You, Tabi, and Kura head outside.

In front of the museum are two wagons - one with a casket, which the six movers cover with a tarp, and another that has some piece of magic machinery and a chirop with a heavy pack.

Around the wagons are exactly a dozen chirop with light tan coats - the mercenaries, you assume.

While five of the movers take the wagon with the casket and the mercenaries stick with walking, the rest of you board the other wagon. They seem to be powered with a mana-driven motor, steered with a wheel that protrudes from a pole in front of the foremost seat.

Some of the mercs give you an odd look, but don't say anything to you as the convoy makes its way through the city and enters the forest path east, each wagon operated by a mover.

Kura: "So, this is Luoda, acquaintance of mine that has helped me with various tinkering jobs in the past. She's brought some tools and a mana source for us to use."

She gestures to the pack-wearing chirop who gives a small wave.

Luoda: "Nice armor there. Is that real witch metal? Or the best replication I've seen yet?"

You pop your helm off for now and head off towards the south-west end of town, Andrew following behind.

The streets are full of various vendors and intricately dressed shamans, many giving you a lookover as you pass them, a few even commenting on Lucida's armor.

At the south-west edge of town, you find a human house that doesn't even seem like a common human design for the area. Angled shutter roofing isn't outlandish, but the large vertical windows and blue wood paneling sure are.

Stepping onto the porch, you give the door a few knocks. There's the sound of a small person running over to the door, which quickly opens up to reveal a small girl just a tad higher than your waist.

She has pure white hair and glimmering blue eyes, and has a short sleeved white shirt overtop another slightly-larger black shirt. Doll joints are visible on her elbows, hands and fingers.

She's a doll?

Girl: "Hello! Maddie is busy, but will be done soon."

There are footsteps behind the girl, and a bizarre thing approaches the doorway.

It looks lupus in form, but is wearing a black sleeved dress, hands concealed by poor-fitting gloves. The lupus’s(?) face is obscured by a black veil and hat.

It speaks with a voice that you can’t really decide whether it’s a wolf or a human, or male or female.

?????: ”Hello, sorry for the delay. What can I do for you two?”

Tabi: ”Uh, lemme check.”

She pulls out her interface brick, fiddling with it for a few seconds.

Tabi: ”It seems to be picking up your major muscle statuses, but that could just be it picking up the armor’s, which is I guess replicating your outer muscles. Some touch sensory information, too.

Don’t seem to be any thoughts, though.”



Luoda: ”So, a suit of not just witch metal, but the living flesh as well. Sounds extremely dangerous, do you know if that has proper countermeasures against witch corruption?”

Tabi: ”Is that any different from normal corruption?”

Luoda: ”If regular corruption is the random alteration of magic, witch corruption is a alteration with intent - specifically, to aid the witch. It only happens with queen cores, specifically the focuses, but those tend to be the most desirable, since the lower rank cores aren’t anywhere near as powerful. Early constructs with queen core focuses usually resulted in growing an entirely new witch with the construct being a part of the witch’s form, and then you get brand new types of dimensional monsters.

Witch queen focuses can corrupt people, too, but that takes prolonged direct contact with either the focus or things produced or controlled by the focus. Like, your suit.”


The convoy exits the forest and makes it to the watchtower, where you see Ettiin and Vandolf watching someone with a massive hunchback paint a picture on a hill.

Kura: ”Alright, let’s get this casket to the top!”

The curator hops off the wagon and starts ordering the movers around while the mercenaries talk with the tower guards and join the lookout, while Luoda seems to be on the fence between following Kura and analyzing your suit.

Girl: ”They’re inside me, screaming infants. The people said they were going to take them out but they didn’t come, someone burned down the building and now there’s a wall. No one came to get them out and they won’t stop, please just take them from me, I don’t want to hear them anymore.”

She’s reaching her arms through the bars now, trying to grab you, not that you’re anywhere close enough to be grabbed.

The three of you are silent for a while, watching Jala paint.

After some time passes, you notice a pair of wagons surrounded by a dozen chirop in brown coats approaching the tower. The wagons seem to be carrying some cargo as well as more people, and you can make out the curator, Tabi, and some guy in sleek, shiny black armor with forward-swept horns on the helm.

Ettiin: ”Oh look! They’re here!”

The curator and several chirop take the casket off of one of the wagons and enter the tower, with the tan-coats talking with the guards before joining them in guard duty.
