I managed to complete the game with a horde of some 18800 gold and some pretty average stats that swung around a ton during the game, but my main driving force was my infamy rating - I won't tell you how I did it, but I defeated the party of heroes without so much as a scratch and got a huge amount of infamy score from it, which let me get the luck dragon as a mate later on. That doesn't seem to have any impact on gameplay, but one thing I will say is that you shouldn't be afraid to try and talk things through; you can get some pretty good stuff that way, and another thing I learnt is that the gods don't seem to care if you sack the temples and set up your own faith and claim to be a god - that's how I got so much bling.
