You run into the same chirop from earlier, the student still walking around while holding her light orb spell above her head and books in the other arm.

Student: ”Hey again. You guys wandering or something?”

Tabi: ”Just a little disoriented in the dark. Where’s the cafe again?”

Student: ”Two floors down. I don’t know if they’re still open, can’t hurt to try.”

There doesn’t seem to be a rush, so you finish chipping out the rest of the mana stones. Madenuuk finishes about at the same time as you, but he also has all of his broken veins extracted in in a pile.

You start it off by swinging your weapon at Linna. She easily deflects and then evades the attack, instantly following up with a frighteningly fast charge, slamming her shoulder into your chest and putting fairly large dent in your armor before you can dodge. Another swing of your halberd that she evades again, and you decide to launch yourself back with kinetics.

This time, miraculously, you don’t stumble yourself. You might need to uh, touch up your armor though.

Plenty of tables and chairs, some with students eating, others studying under the illumination of their personal lights. It looks like the kitchens are still going, the food being cooked by manually cast fire. There’s also an area that’s selling packaged food, cans and paper-wrapped items.

With your telepathic experience, it’s fairly easy, and you get an almost recursion-effect of probing a specific area and seeing your mind react to the information.

You decide to look around town for a magic item seller.

There are a few chirop sitting on the road “selling mana.” Something like you pay them and they give you mana, provided you have a stone to carry it. As for an actual shop, you find one called “Arcane Supplies.” You’re pretty sure there was a shop with this name back in Magusalto, must be a chain of stores or something. Entering the store, you see shelves and tables full of magic components and constructs.

Staff: ”Welcome.”

A quick glance over some items - Mana stones, focus stones, release stones, some memory stones, plenty of conduit wiring, and fully built constructs. Some of the constructs look like weapons, others tools.

Staff: ”Looking for anything in particular?”

After rearranging some mana around, you follow Madenuuk into his house and then basement while Horoma and Miimas stay in the yard.

Madenuuk collects a number of doll parts, enough for a complete model, and takes them over to a cleared table.

Madenuuk: ”These are made from a mixture of clay and ground artificial matter conduit. It makes them less brittle, more durable, and makes it easy for us to work magic on. Now, let us assemble the core components.”

The eyes are made from a light-sensitive AM component that was purchased, and a durable stained glass that functioned as the casing and decoration to make it appear like a real eye, installed into an eye socket. The sound-sensing module is another market-purchased item, a sound-sensitive AM component used in the ears, and a sound-producing module for the throat.

The memory crystal goes into the head, along with a few mana stones, while a large number of mana stones, a kinetic focus, and a release go into the torso. Conduit runs throughout all the limbs and the body, connecting everything to the release, combining the release, focus, and mana stones into a unit, which then connects to the memory stone in the head.

The face is also a bunch of conduit wiring and market-bought flexible AM, rigged to be able to move like a real face.

Madenuuk: ”The memory stone is the most important part. It holds artificial memories, instincts, that perform an action based on the spirit’s thinking, the spirit that is inside the memory stone, and it sends information to the spirit when the doll sees or touches or hears. It took many years to develop these memories, but thankfully you can just copy them over.”

Copying the memory pattern from Madenuuk’s master stone into the Drake stone isn’t that difficult, it’s just time consuming. Like transferring mana, but making sure the arrangement of the mana is in the right structure, shape. You’re not really sure how these are memories, maybe it requires a certain method to read them.

Madenuuk: ”Well, we now have a complete doll. You can take it back to Vranhal, along with Horoma, as proof of the functionality, and some written instructions on the doll’s fabrication.”

He hands you a large briefcase like container, almost like a small coffin, with a complete set of doll-sized clothes inside. The doll and papers go in and the case closed, with strapes on one side so it can be worn like a backpack.

Madenuuk: ”I will stay here and continue my efforts in making more, and improving the build.”
