Post Re: Tiny Gods: Deux Ex
Dammit New Vegas.
Will roll tonight.

caekdaemon - Al-Aris [-]:
Al-Aris: "I'm sorry about what I had to do, Li, but this way, nothing else has to die."
Li-Rala: "I know, I know..."
You give her a quick hug, just a comforting squeeze, which she gladly accepts.
After releasing her, you scan the area to make sure that the rest of the wolves are gone, and that nothing else is about to jump out and take advantage of the wolves attacking you to finish the job.

A few seconds of nothing confirm your safety, and you turn to the wolf under the tree to make sure it's deceased. Oof.
Yeah. Yeah, it's definitely dead. And uh, kind of all over the ground. Bones or not, bodies are still relatively soft, and having a tree fall on top of one does not have good effects. So, yes. The wolf is dead.
Lirala walks over to the wolf and lays a hand on its head, then closes her eyes in a silent prayer. A few moments pass, then she stands back up and walks back over to you and nods.

Appearance: A big and bulky man that appears to be middle aged, with a full head of black hair and surprisingly dark eyes. He claims to be Middle Eastern in origin, but to an observer he would seem to be a little...pale.

Seraphimo - Dunrim [-]:
Dunrim: "Jump awaaaaaaaaay!"
Channeling your inner monkey, you go leaping tree to tree, getting a bit braver and a bit faster with each jump, and you quickly start showing off a big, doing swings off branches and swooping between trees. Your only regret is that no one is around to see your majesty. On the bright side, you're moving quite fast, and with just a few minutes of your high velocity monkeyswing, you reach the edge of the trees. Slowing yourself so as not to plunge to the ground, you jump to one of the last trees by the gap, and look over into it.
Ah.
A wide gorge. With a strong river at the bottom.
This may need more Jump than you have.

Appearance: His face is full of soot and he looks a bit pale but otherwise he looks like a normal human. He is a little shorter than the average human and he likes to wear fully protective clothing. His origin is claimed to be somewhere inside Europe though he's not telling where.

TheKebbit - Wassily Nuñez [-]:
With the battle won, you idle around a bit, taking the free moment to sit down and reload your flare gun in case you need another quick shot of fire.
...Wait, where IS the first flare?

Appearance: A square man in a heavily starched uniform - white, blue, and yellow, battered radio and a flare gun hanging from his belt in a plastic crate. His face is creased with lines of worry. He bears papers and codes of many navies, corporate and scientific contracts, stamped, sealed, filed as paid.

CaveCricket48 - Linna [-]:
With things handled with the wolves, you turn to Heph to give a quick diagnosis and heal.
Linna: "Yep, those're bites."
Heph: "Thanks, doc. Anybody got some bandages?"
Linna: "Bandages are for chumps without magic. Heal."
Your gauntlets are immediately suffused with a soft, warm glow, and you lay both hands upon the bite marks in Heph's arm. The light intensifies for a few seconds, while also seeming to sink into his arm. You notice yourself feeling somewhat drained as you pull away from his arm, no mark of the bite remaining save for a few small reddish spots on the skin. Hmm, you're more winded than you'd expect from a simple heal like that... Must be all the power usage, you've been going harder than any of the others so far.

Appearance: A young woman that seems a bit thin but stands on a sturdy pair of legs. Her short dark hair is still long enough to nearly cover her eyes that are already concealed behind thick glasses, making it difficult to read her expression.

maart3n - Mikey/Heph [-]:
You check the wolf to see if you can help it, and... nnnnoo. That's... no. It got pretty wrecked by that tree. Nothing you can do for it. Alone, at least. Linna comes over and makes to examine your arm, and you let her, not terribly enthused about having a bunch of bite wounds in your arm.
Linna: "Yep, those're bites."
Heph: "Thanks, doc. Anybody got some bandages?"
Linna: "Bandages are for chumps without magic. Heal."
She suddenly lights up her hands, then clamps onto your arm with them. A soft warmth diffuses into your arm, followed by an odd itch in the wounds. When she lets go, you look at your wound and find that it's gone! Healing powers. Huh. Wait, isn't that like, your thing? Well, sort of. Whatever, your arm is fixed, leaving just your leg still bleeding. You wonder if your power can patch that one up.

Paedichorrhea - Matt [-]:
Hm. The others finished off the wolves without you. Well, that's fine too. You got more practice in with Head Down at least. Amazing how effective it is, even woodland animals don't notice you.

Events:
With the wolves defeated, the group takes a moment to gather their wits, then head forward again. Another half hour or so of walking, and they begin to see the trees thin up ahead. Along with... uh... rumbling?
As they get to the edge of the trees, they realize what the rumbling is from; a large raging river at the bottom of an even larger gorge going through the land here. It goes on for quite a way in either direction, and is a good 120 feet across. No sign of a bridge, either. So that's great. Guess Johnny forgot to mention you'd need to fly to get to this burial ground.
...Wait. The burial ground.
Mikeph: "You guys feel that?"
Wassily: "Yes, I can feel the target's presence. It's faint, but..."
Linna: "But it's there. Way over there, across the gorge. So we definitely need to get across."

ROUND SHIELDS.

Heal Meph's leg if I have the energy for it.

Find a dead tree and decay it's base so it bridges the gorge.

DARK ROLLS: PREPARE TO DIE EDITION

caekdaemon - Al-Aris [4]:
Al-aris: "Why don't I just decay a tree and we can use it as a bridge? Only one of us would need to make the passage before Linna could swap us all over."
Li-Rala: "Best to choose a dead tree, though. I think we've done enough killing for awhile..."
You agree, and look around for a suitable candidate for becoming your bridge. As luck would have it, there's one right next to the group that looks good! Clearly dead, quite tall, pretty thick... Looks like it has everything you need.
You take a moment to gather some Decay at your hand, since this tree is even larger than the one you felled earlier, then in one sharp motion, strike at the base, discharging the energy into the tree's trunk. In a flash, a large chunk of the tree poofs into dust, leaving a thinned lattice of half-eaten, half-rotten wood remaining. It breaks a moment later.
With a mighty creaking roar, the tree topples over as you watch proudly, and slams into the opposite side of the gorge about 3/4 of the way up its length.

*CRACK*
That's not a good sound.
As you watch in rapidly growing horror, the tree's massive trunk snaps upon impact with the stone lip of the gorge, on account of being a years old dead, rotten tree. The entire lower half of the tree then proceeds to swing down and plummet into the river, making a large splash in the water before breaking apart into pieces in the raging flow and being swept away.

On the bright side. You didn't crush anyone this time.

Appearance: A big and bulky man that appears to be middle aged, with a full head of black hair and surprisingly dark eyes. He claims to be Middle Eastern in origin, but to an observer he would seem to be a little...pale.

Seraphimo - Dunrim [-]:
You run along the side of the gorge, taking energy to fuel your sprint. Hmm... Not enough energy around here to jump across, you'd need something moving faster. No place where the gorge gets thin enough to cross easily, either. This could be problematic.
Wait. There's a source of a LOT of kinetic energy. Right here, actually. Right down there! The river! Brilliant!
You just... need to get it. It's easy! Yeah! Right!

♥♥♥♥, you can't pull the energy up from that far away. It's a pretty deep gorge.
...
Although. Well, this is a ♥♥♥♥ crazy idea, but... If you were to, hypothetically, jump down INTO the gorge... you could get the river's delicious energy easy. Alternatively, you'd fail to sufficiently defend yourself from the full power of a giant raging river, and it smashes you against the rocks and breaks all your bones and you drown.
There was also that... pretty lady from before. Barmaid, her, the one who saved you from splatting out of a tree. She said "one free fall", meaning you don't get another save from a fall? Should've asked her that. To be fair, she was very, uh, distracting. Yes, that's the word.

You call up the Chart for this area, maybe you can glean something from looking at that. Hmm. Yep, that's a gorge. Er, sorta. The Chart's kind of weird. There's still the land and water speckling on both sides of the gorge, but the gorge itself is one massive, extremely high altitude strip of Land running through the Chart. You wonder if it can extend vertically as well, but quickly realize that no, a Chart is definitely limited to 2D in existence. Though it does indicate verticality via Altitude and Depth.
Though, to be honest, you think the Chart is sort of mostly symbolic anyway. There certainly isn't a giant wall of earth in front of you all, but a gorge like this is almost as impassible as one. As for seeing anything up or down river...
Well, nothing on your Chart. Just high altitude Land as far as the Chart goes. Doesn't look like any path down either. Well, there is, but it's pretty one-way.

CaveCricket48 - Linna [-]:
You poof away the shields Mikey has, then remake two in your own hands, this time square shields.
Wait.
That's not right.
Tower shields. Yes, that's it.
With your kite shields back on your own hands, you walk over to Meph and have him show you the injured leg. Not TOO bad, it's all still attached, just a few puncture wounds. Would've been a lot worse if you hadn't castled in with your armored limbs. You focus your energies again, and force out a healing light onto his leg.

Oh... Jeez. You're tired now, definitely. Was fine a moment ago, but damn, that healing really takes a lot of energy. You should really stop using your power for a bit.

Appearance: A young woman that seems a bit thin but stands on a sturdy pair of legs. Her short dark hair is still long enough to nearly cover her eyes that are already concealed behind thick glasses, making it difficult to read her expression.

maart3n - Mikey/Heph [-]:
Linna suddenly vanishes your, well, her shields that you were holding, then poofs new round ones onto her arms. She then walks over and takes a look at your leg.
Mikey: "Lemme see if I can fix this first."
Instead of letting you take a crack at it, she goes right into it, putting another healing hand on your leg like before, though it feels a lot less... potent this time. Upon further inspection of Linna, she looks a bit pale, and definitely is perspiring. Hrm.
Okay, you'll just do a little sneaky here...

You quickly activate your own powers, flowing them into your leg and juicing up your own regeneration abilities, and you feel the healing go from almost painfully slow to pleasantly fast. Once it's done, she takes her hands away and nods, satisfied, though still looking tired.

Paedichorrhea - Matt [-]:
You just sort of... Lounge around. The others are figuring out ways across, not much you can do here to help. "Alone" can't quite cross rivers.

Events:
The crash from Al-Aris dropping a second tree echoes around the woods a bit before fading away. Well, you probably won't have to worry about any more animals attacking, since they're all hiding from the recent outbreak of falling trees.

"Almost had it. Hey, Mikey, can you put some life into the tree after it falls to cross the river? You don't need to make it grow flowers or anything, just give it enough strength to hold the weight of one person."

Try again with another dead tree, hope for Mikey/Maarten to use his life power on it. If there are no more dead trees...well, use a regular tree, I guess.

Since the others haven't actioned, here are my suggestions on their behalf.

Kebbit : Use the Chart to find the best part of the chasm to bridge.

Maarten : Do what I said in my own post : Use life powers to strengthen the tree after its in place to prevent it from snapping.

Paed : Make people ignore the fear of, y'know, crossing a raging river on a tree held together by rot and life magic.

Post Re: Tiny Gods: Deux Ex
Kebb and Maarten have excuses, Paedi c'mon, it aint too hard to action.
Rolling.

caekdaemon - Al-Aris [-]:
Al-aris: "Almost had it. Hey, Mikey, can you put some life into the tree after it falls to cross the river? You don't need to make it grow flowers or anything, just give it enough strength to hold the weight of one person."
Mikey: "Trees are uh... pretty big. Specially these ones. I can try though."
It takes a bit of looking this time, but you do locate another dead tree. Seems like none others around here though, so this will be your last shot. Or, well, last shot with a dead tree.
You build up a charge of Decay energy on your hand for the third time now, and with Mikey standing at the ready, you strike at the base of the tree, carving a large chunk of it into wood dust. A tense moment passes, then there's a mighty CRACK as the remaining bit of trunk breaks.
Jumping into action, Mikey jumps forward and lays both hands on the tree, and you assume he pumps it full of life as it falls. There's not much change in the tree's look that you can see, though it is also falling over a giant gorge, not surprising you can't take a moment to examine it.

The tree falls, hits the other side of the gorge, and... holds. A few ominous creaks and small chunks of rock tumble down into the watery depths below, but the tree itself goes nowhere.
Li-Rala: "It worked? It worked! Good, you don't need to fell any live trees! And we can get across the... rickety tree bridge."

Appearance: A big and bulky man that appears to be middle aged, with a full head of black hair and surprisingly dark eyes. He claims to be Middle Eastern in origin, but to an observer he would seem to be a little...pale.

Seraphimo - Dunrim [-]:
Dunrim: "Oh well I hope someone else has a better idea than mine."
You look upriver. Nope, nothing.
You look downriver. Nope, still nothing.
This gorge is cold, hard, and unforgiving, there's pretty much no easy way down, or nice way back up. You can sort of circumvent both of those, unless you screw it up, so not sure how much a problem it is. Though, you reeeeally don't want to jump in and die horribly. Well, with a rope you could probably lower yourself down safely.
CRASH
Orrrrrr you could take the tree those guys just knocked over. That's probably safer. Less exciting though.

Looking around on the chart, it looks like the best spot to cross would be...
Uh...
Anywhere? It doesn't thin terribly much, you're probably better off just looking for a good tree than a good location. Plus this map isn't too great for actually looking at cartography. Seems a bit more... abstract than that. It shows... well, if you had to put a name to it, difficulty of traversing. Water is easy to cross, land is hard. Higher land is more difficult to cross, and deeper water is... You're unsure on that. But it means something.
CRASH
Speaking of, the tree that just fell made a thin line of Sea across the big landmass that is the gorge! Neat!

CaveCricket48 - Linna [-]:
While the others fuss over their trees and nonsense, you sit down and lie back against a decidedly not dead tree. You maybe shouldn't, but... You let your eyes drift closed. It's remarkably easy, even though you aren't too sleepy. Or physically tired. Or maybe you are, and you can't feel it. Or maybe it's a weird spiritual thing.
Or maybe it doesn't matter, because you're already drifting around in your thoughts. Not quite asleep, don't have the time for a full nap. But a catnap is fine, just enough to rest the eyes. You let your thoughts dance around freely, drifting and jumping from subject to subject. Trees, wolves, hills, plains, indians, wars, battles, warriors, fighters, dead warriors, dead warriors fighting, valhalla, norse gods, odin, eyes, eyepatches, pirates, high seas, CRASH
Oh. Hey. They knocked another tree over. Cool, time to get up.
You stretch a bit as you stand, definitely feeling refreshed.

Appearance: A young woman that seems a bit thin but stands on a sturdy pair of legs. Her short dark hair is still long enough to nearly cover her eyes that are already concealed behind thick glasses, making it difficult to read her expression.

maart3n - Mikey/Heph [9]:
Al-aris: "Almost had it. Hey, Mikey, can you put some life into the tree after it falls to cross the river? You don't need to make it grow flowers or anything, just give it enough strength to hold the weight of one person."
Mikey: "Trees are uh... pretty big. Specially these ones. I can try though."
You're unsure. You've got some good influence over smaller life forms, but... a tree? A tree this big? That could be a problem, maybe.
Well, only one way to find out! You ready yourself by the tree, and Al-Aris strikes it with his Decay. There's a flash of black as he does, and then a chunk of the tree is missing.
Wait...
Waaaaiiit...
The loud crack of the rest of the trunk breaking rings out, and you immediately leap forward, pumping life into the tree as it slowly tips over. It dawns upon you then how crazy an idea this was. Just raw Life energy won't work, it's all pooling around where you inject it, it needs to spread throughout the entire tree, especially near the top. So, on a hunch, you surge as much Life into it as you can, then finish with a Life Shock, sending a strong pulse of Life into the trunk. Miraculously, it works as you wanted, and the Life Shock pushes the reservoir of life up the trunk and through the entire tree! Just in time for it to hit the other side of the gorge, where this time, it sticks! Woo!
Oh. Gosh, oh that was a lot of energy. You... need to sit for a sec. Oof. You may have accidentally use some of your own instead of drawing upon your power's ability to generate it.

Paedichorrhea - Matt [-]:
Ignore fear? That's probably maybe sorta possibly a thing you can do. You admit you've never tried, and your powers are... hm. Well, they're suited towards being alone, not towards ignoring things. Though maybe you could... make it so the only thought in their mind is crossing the tree successfully? And not falling?

Events:
A third tree fall joins the first two, and most of the forest animals are now convinced these seven strangers are the harbingers of the lumberjack apocalypse.

"There we go! Linna, are you ready? I'd suggest letting Wassily be the first to cross the tree, since he's the fastest. "

Paed : Have Wassily/Keb Overlook the fear of crossing the river.

Kebbit : Use Seafare to cross the wooden tree trunk as fast as possible.

Maarten : Take a breather, contemplate the possibility of forming an Embodied Union.

And lastly myself : Sit back, relax and watch the show...and wait for Linna to teleport us all across.
