Post Re: Ad Infidium (Roll 118)
John: "No, this is fine. You need to hear the long version of what happened in Esthen too, so that's perfect."

P’orihc: "Do we get the chance to ask you a couple of things too?"

Lord of Vranhal: ”Of course.”

The party is led into into the heart of the city by the lord, the lupus, and a few other guards. The city seems to be divided into ring-shaped sections - the outermost is the wall, the next inner consists of fields, farms, cottages and small villages. After that is denser arrays of houses and shops, and in the central section of the city is probably the part that can actually be called a “city,” composed of scores of stone and brick buildings of varying shapes and sizes.

The group reaches a clearing in the city, a large paved area with a large building in the center. The structure has large columns on its front side and a wide set of steps leading to the gate. Soldiers and mages are posted in various positions guarding the area.

As the group enters the building and navigates its large halls, there’s the occasional person that would stop and say “Ma’am, there’s a Caelum Enforcer amongst your group” or “There’s a Caelum mage following you” or something of the like, to which the lord would calmly reply “I am aware, thank you.” The person would then salute before continuing whatever they were doing.

Eventually, the group reaches a set of double doors that open up into a large office. The left and right walls are lined with frames holding paintings and documents, and the white ceiling has numerous dark brown stains. At the back of the room is a wide desk, behind it a large window.

The guards escorting the group remain outside as everyone else enters, and the lord takes her seat behind the desk as the lupus stands by her left side and the Torrential armor separates and reforms by her right.

Lord of Vranhal: ”As you might or might not know, I am Elizabeth Hopluit, sometimes referred to as Hopkins. You can thank my brother for that mix up.”

Her light brown hair looks like it was tied up in a bun, but now it’s almost undone with numerous strands free and running off her narrow shoulders. She has a simple white buttoned shirt covered in wrinkles, the sleeves bunched up at the elbows and doing a poor job at hiding her muscular arms.

The lord shuffles some papers around her desk before figuring out which is the correct stack, tapping it on the desk to straighten the pile up before speaking.

Elizabeth: ”Several days ago it was reported that there was a suspicious man who appeared in Mead.”

She points at Kleigg.

Elizabeth: ”He explored the remains of a Caelum Mons, and after that acquired a piece of religious clothing. He exhibited a strange magic effect that was unfamiliar to the observer. That is the extent of the initial report. A team of six mages were dispatched to bring him in for questioning to determine whether or not if he was affiliated with any branch of Caelum, and if the magic effect he had was intended to cause harm or illegally obtain information.”

She sets one of the papers down.

Elizabeth: ”Report from the six-man team: After reaching Mead and having a brief fight with the target and his companions, the mage are approached by former Magister Byrnolf Eitulta who stated that he personally investigated the matter and that the target is not associated with Caelum. Despite the fact that the former Magister has no official authority anymore, the mage team left Mead to return to Vranhal. Roughly halfway through the trip they were struck down by fire magic, with all but the white mage being killed in action. The survivor said that he believed that there was a seventh, but he was unable to see it. A bolt of fire was launched into the air and two horsemen arrived on the seen and then left shortly after. The site of the incident was discovered by m- a mailman leaving Mead and heading to Vranhal, and several men from Mead went to bring the mage team and their equipment back to Mead. The survivor stated that the target and all the target’s companions were still in Mead upon returning, but left soon after.”

Another paper is dropped from her hands and to the desk.

Elizabeth: ”Three days later, four of the target’s companions returned to Mead, a lupus and three humans. They were questioned, determined to be uninvolved in any major threats, and then left to their own devices.”

The rest of the papers are placed down.

Elizabeth: ”After that, three undercover men were dispatched to bring back the target and his companions. Two of the men were taken out by Caelum forces, the third escaped. That is as far as our information goes, though I know you two, the Enforcer and the westerner, aren’t involved in this incident.”

She points at the Enforcer and Miimas, the latter letting out a sigh of relief.

Elizabeth: ”The rest of you,”

John, Kleigg, P’orihc, Ki’stha, Kyeltziv.

Elizabeth: ”Are flagged as potential threats to Vranhal. So, my questions - First, do you believe this account of the incident to be accurate. If not, what is inaccurate.

Second, what is your relation and involvement with the First, Second, or Third of Caelum, in regards to this incident. We’ll go over what happened in Esthen later.

She points at Kleigg -

Elizabeth: ”We figured out now that you’re a negation mage, so that explains the magic effect that no one except Torrent was able to identify.
So, feel free to say whatever.”

Post Re: Ad Infidium (Roll 118)
"First, yes, that is for the most part how things occurred, save for one thing. The seventh mage, the attacker of the investigation group in Mead, was with them the entire time we saw them. For some reason, I noticed there were seven and the fact stuck in my mind. Then, when they brought the survivor back into town, he said there were only six. Everyone else agreed that they thought there were six, but had some doubts. We think the seventh mage may have been using some powerful telepathy to hide themselves in plain sight.

Second, aside from the incident in Esthen, there is none. We went in the direction the attackers did with their horses, intending to bring them to justice. A bit silly that we thought we could, in retrospect. In any case, Kleigg is... a curious fellow, in both senses of the word, but he doesn't associate with Caelum.
In the interests of full disclosure however, we were involved in the Esthen incident rather heavily, with Kleigg being talked into using his Nullifier power to try and control Lucida for the Second. But it was only out of a sense of wanting to help someone in need and a general willingness to believe anyone immediately."

"Yes, everything seems fairly accurate. Being friends with Kleigg basically dragged us into the Mons of the Second, which then made us witness the whole Lucida issue from first hand. Personally, I'm not interested in the whole Caelum conflict, but now we are too into this to back out. I suppose. But it's kinda nice to meet all this interesting people filled with knowledge and else! So much to learn, so little time. If I could only telepathically suck the knowledge and the years of training from people! Er, maybe not suck, just replicate the knowledge for me or just learn faster by understanding better what they do with pathics. Possibilities are endless!

Oh and no, I have no idea and I'm not related at all with that event that happened with the telepathic assasin. I do think that his abilities must be amazing and it'd be really nice to learn how to do those things. Of course, I do not intend to murder anyone. I'd do it just for the pure knowledge! Maybe enroll as a special, secret agent somewhere, and then retire with a good pension. Oh well, maybe someday."

"That would be too easy. No, I want you to live a long life alone with your cowardice. That is, under a few conditions. And let me be clear that I will not hesitate to end your life. First, step into the light, where I can see you."

>Motion at it with my sword. If it does anything suspicious, flurry it.

"Second, there is a bounty on your head. If you want to be able to live the rest of your miserable life in peace, you will need to give me something that can work as proof of your demise. That, and I will need you to leave all of your belongings behind. And I do mean all. I will make no exceptions, besides your undergarments."

>Flurry the human if it doesn't strip down or if it does anything suspicious. I can't have it sneaking anything out of the cellar.

"While you're at it, humor me by explaining to me your role within the bandit camp."

>Wait for it to finish before continuing. Observe which hand is its dominant hand by how it undresses. Again, flurry the human if it tries anything.

"Now you may be wondering what the point in allowing your survival is if you're out of business. Well, I have a proposition for you. Not too far from here, there is a lupus named Wolf building roads. He could use someone like you. It's good, honest work that pays well. If you tell him that his old party sent you, I'm sure he will accommodate you, including new clothing."

>Step to the side so that it is able to leave. As soon as it tries to pass me, raise a sword to its neck, step closer, and look it straight in the eyes. If it moves, flurry it.

"One last question. And I will kill you if I do not like your answer. Is there anything hidden on your person, or at any location that you know of?"

>When someone fabricates a lie, they look towards the direction of their dominant hand. Repeat the question in this case, or if I get even the faintest feeling that it may be lying. If I feel that it is not telling the complete truth by the second question, flurry it. Let it pass if I have absolutely no doubt of its honesty, after a brief shakedown if the answer turns out to be "yes".

Kyeltziv: "Wait... Why'd we think it's a good idea t' go lookin' for guys who killed a bunch of trained mages... We're a bunch of bloody idiots aren't we."

Elizabeth: ”By ‘negation systems’ I assume you don’t actually mean negation systems.”

The lord is lightly scratching the desk with a finger, processing the information.

Elizabeth: ”So, we have another cloaking telepath running about.
I think I’ll need to hear some details on this incident with Esthen.”

The Enforcer speaks up now.

Green-Grey Enforcer: ”Vakaumus, a former Seer of the Second, was responsible for the capture of Lucida several years ago, and its containment. He then acted without permission from higher members of the Second, revealing information to the party here and attempting to have this nullifier control Lucida. It was not known to the Internal Enforcement Branch that Lucida was spirited, and it escaped the anti-magic chamber that it was held in and then escaped Esthen. As previously mentioned, Lucida only attacked those who attempted to stop it.

After Lucida’s escape, the Enforcement Director predicted that the weapon would head towards Vranhal and ordered my squad to stall it. Or stop it? The messenger wasn’t very clear. Either way, we caught up to the weapon before it reached Imum. After failing to verbally convince the weapon to turn around, we resorted to physical barriers and that is when it attacked us. We fought defensively for about a minute until several were severely injured.”

He holds up his left hand, covered in a metal gauntlet with intricate lines forming intricate patterns on its surface.

Green-Grey Enforcer: ”I was sent to deliver the news to Vranhal since I have a mobile construct, while the others retreated. The fellows here arrived before I did.”

Elizabeth: ”And Lucida came here because it was looking for Ultima. Is that all the information you have?”

Green-Grey Enforcer: ”That is all, yes.”

Elizabeth: ”Then you are free to return to the Second. Guards!”

The office doors open with the guards at attention.

Elizabeth: ”Escort the Caelum Enforcer out of Vranhal, ensure he is not harmed as he is leaving.”

Guards: ”Yes ma’am.”

The Enforcer gives a small bow of his head before departing, and the lord returns her attention to the party.

Elizabeth: ”Do any of you have anything to add regarding the incident in Esthen? If not, ask any questions you might have.”

"Why did people on the way here keep telling you there was an Enforcer here? Do they have some telepathy specialty too?
While on that, you were very polite to him. From what I'd heard elsewhere, it seemed more likely he'd be ending up in the dungeon for coming here. What exactly is the relationship between Vranhal and the Second, or all the sects in general I suppose?"
