"Ah, no, I don't make constructs. I did get some tutelage from a magic lamp maker, and I've read about them somewhat. He was teaching skills for lamp making, which I suppose would be simple constructs. Though, we were interrupted before we could actually get to MAKING one.
So Dark ice is decaying, compared to countering..."

Can you even do that? Well, can’t hurt to try…

Hmm, nope. You can’t even imagine how to use magic that way.

Haiva: ”Magic lamps? Was his name Byrnolf?”

You use Analyze on Robed Man 2...

Doesn’t seem to do anything, but he carefully glance around.

The party makes its way towards Esthen. The roads are full of people again, heading into and out of the huge walled city.

The vertically opened gate is raised high and numerous guards are posted on the walls, but none ask you anything as you enter. Past the gate is a small expanse of field with clusters of houses here and there like small villages, with the main area of the city past that, a dense collection of stone buildings. On the road that leads through the field there’s a group of people in cloaks, some red, others brown, another blue, all have an emblem of a sun on the back, situated over a triangle and in between two curved lines.

The emblem of the Second.

The group stops your party before you can pass them, with the two robed men with you seeming to stay in the back.

Red Mage: ”Excuse me, we’re expecting the arrival of someone who calls himself a ‘travelling monk’ and a ‘nullifier.’ Would you happen to have someone like that in your party or that you know?”

I suppose if you want to finish learning about making constructs I can help with that. Not for free, though.”

Ki’stha: "I'd have thought a nullifier wouldn't have caused much trouble, just nulled it, eh?"

Ki’stha laughs at his own joke and gets a few chuckles out of some of the men.

Red Mage: ”Not trouble, we’re looking to offer him protection from people who are hunting the man, as well as, a business proposal, you could say. If you happen to come across information or the man himself, we would be delighted if you could direct them to our facility in South-West edge of the city. It’s a large temple with our emblem over the doorway.”

Kyeltziv: "A nullifier? I thought those were nothin' more than an old wives tale."

Red Mage: ”They’re real alright, just rare. Fremit D’Leo is a famous example, but there have been a tiny number of others here and there throughout history. We believe that they may be more common than what we have recorded, due to some nullifiers possibly not even knowing they have the ability.”

Haiva: ”Maybe if you dedicate half your lifetime to it you could he a half-decent dark mage.
Your other option would be building a construct that casts dark magic for you, but you need to make constructs first.
So, show me how well you can make a mana stone. Or any other fake matter.”

The party splits up, with you heading towards the city. The two robed men follow, but it’s not hard to lose them amongst the city streets full of people, and you know they can’t track you with telepathy. Esthen seems like a super sized version of Imum - more and bigger buildings, more people, and plenty of religious displays. There seem to be fewer lupus and chirop, though.

You make your way to the South-West of the city where you easily find the temple as directed. It’s immense, the huge sanctuary where the congregation would be held to the wings that make up the left and right sides of the structure holding a multitude of rooms most likely.

Making your way up the steps, a man in white robes greets you at the door. Introducing yourself as a scholar and a monk, you say that you know of someone who has the ability to negate magic. It isn’t long until you’re led through the main chamber of the Mons and to the hall that leads to the left wing, finally leaving you in a room standing in front of a tidy desk. An aged man sits behind it, his grey hair appearing to have started giving up territory at the top of his head but his scarred hand lively enough to expertly wield an ornate ink pen and finish off the last of an ink writing.

The paper is set aside and the pen returned to its decorated rectangular dish, and a pair of intrigued eyes lock on to you.

Old Man: ”So, you know of someone with the power of negation, and you wish to know our reasoning for seeking one.”

He clasps his hands on the desk, staring silently for a moment before continuing.

Old Man: ”There is a role we need filled, and the main qualification is magic resistance. An absurd amount of resistance. To the top mages of the Second, this would be suicide. To a man who has the powers of negation, it would be but a chore.”

The party splits up again, with you remaining to talk to the Red Mage.

"How's Esthen doing?"

Red Mage: ”Well enough, despite the lack of trade and the ongoing hostilities. I suppose the conflict has sparked life into some people? Haha! I probably sound like a Third. The branch of the Second that resides here is coordinating with the lord and council of Esthen to produce some very promising plans that may take the possibility of war off the table.

So, what brings your party to Esthen? Business? Refuge? Did it have anything to do with those two men breathing down your neck?”

The party splits up again, with you and Kyeltziv leaving to explore the city and Miimas trailing behind. It’s not too different from Imum, except bigger with larger and more numerous buildings and streets denser with people, though not as many chirop or lupus as Imum.As you move closer to the center of the city, the buildings become more ornate and the people more expensively dressed.

You catch an interesting snippet of conversation from some important-looking men walking down a street.

Man 1: ”The last one didn’t quite turn out as expected, but our agent more or less got the man out safely.”

Man 2: ”Anything that could possibly reveal the agent’s identity?”

Man 1: ”I hear there was a ‘leftover,’ but he didn’t seem to catch anything useful. The rescue subject’s party might catch on, but apparently they’re already making their way to us and none of our covers in Vran are reporting anything worrying other than an investigation into the operation.”
