You attempt to stabilize a small patch of skin, taking it slow and careful to avoid catastrophic results. Let’s see, stabilization works by making something stop moving in relation to something else. You figure your bones would work as a base, so you stabilize a coin-sized patch of skin on your arm with one of your forearm bones as the base. Carefully rotating the arm, you feel the skin trying to follow the bone, and quickly stop the spell when a sharp pain stings around an edge of the stabilized patch. A small cut has appeared, in the shape of a slight curve. Apparently the flexibility of skin is greatly reduced when stabilized.

"Why're dark magic users rarer than light?"

Byrnolf: ”Same reason why albinos are so rare. Isn’t something that’s supposed to happen in the first place, and then when one does show up the whole town goes into a craze about vampires and whatever and then you have a mob planting stakes with the familys’ heads on ‘em. When that dark mage came to me I gave her the best advice I had: Stay away from humans, the lot of them will believe whoever shouts the loudest, and the nutjobs tend to be the loudest. And yes, she was human, if you were wondering. Chirop aren’t nearly as hostile to new things, no, in fact they’re more interested in intensely studying whatever it is even if it’s something that should be left alone. Anyways, I’m going off subject.”

P’orihc: "Random question Mr. Byrnolf, how hard would it be to make a firewall?"

Byrnolf: ”It’d be easy as long as you’re carrying around a load of mana stones. Continuously producing all that heat over a large area is a huge energy demand.”

Kleigg: "Ki'stha! Would you like to spar for a round? Hand to hand? I may need to leave town soon - you as well, but I don't know your plans - and it is probably best that we get to grips with combat before encountering bandits on the road."

Ki’stha: "Where are you going? If there's work to be had I'll tag along."

Kleigg: "To Vranhal. I need to see a mage about something I've found."

Ki’stha: "Are we to go on foot?"

Kleigg: "I haven't seen any wagons arrive or leave, and neither of us have wings. It looks as if we will have to walk."

Ki’stha looks down at his arms, confused, but doesn’t linger on it.

Ki’stha: "We'll find a way."

The two of you face off to spar. Taking the initiative, you lead with a fast, accurate punch that strikes Ki’stha in the stomach despite his best efforts to evade it, shoving him back and knocking the wind out of him.

"THERE IT IS."

Sliding down the trunk of the tree, you snatch up your torch when you reach the ground and leg it back to town as fast as you can. A quick plow through the waters snuffs out your fire stick, and you’re back on the dirt road before you know it. A bit of a trek and you reach Mead’s southern entrance, where you’re greeted by Swordsman 2. He hands you 3 coppers.

Swordsman 2: ”We’re taking shifts, got one night-time passerby.”

You look down at your arms, specifically the membranes connecting them to your body that allow you to fly. Do those count as wings?

"We'll find a way."

The two of you face off to spar. While you take a defensive approach, Kleigg takes the initiative and leads with a fast, solid punch, and despite your best attempts to evade, the blow hits you hard in the stomach, shoving you back and knocking the wind out of you. The impact leaves you with a painful bruise, hurting when you move.

"Try some magic!"

What are Chirop flight dynamics like, anyway? Can they make sustained flights or are they limited to hops?

They're capable of sustained flights. Rules will be updated sometime before next roll to clarify the races' innate abilities (chirop flight, lupus magic sensory, humans already have their AP advantage).

It seemed like you’re making progress, so you try again.

If stabilizing skin causes problems when you try to move, what if you stabilize it to the point where nothing should move? With your left arm held in front of you, you start by stabilizing all the forearm, wrist, and finger bones with the upper arm bones as the base, forcing the limb to be only movable via the shoulder. Then, you stabilize all of the skin from upper arm down to the fingertips with the forearm bones again as a base. Once the sequence is done, you very carefully move your arm to see the results.

The whole limb feels like it’s encased in cement, but there’s no skin tearing, everything is rock solid.

John: "I'm ready for Light I think."

P’orihc: "Let’s proceed with Light now."

Brynolf: ”Alright, here we go!”

Like Byrnolf said earlier, Light is fairly similar to Fire, just a lot more refined. It doesn’t take long before you and P’orihc are capable of producing small points of light at your fingertips.

Byrnolf: ”Alright, I think that’s enough magic for the night, I’ll take a few questions and then I gotta get some sleep. We can start up again in the afternoon.”

Ki’stha launches himself into the air, stretching his wings to full length - each one easily longer than his height (how does he even fold those up?) - and makes a few acrobatic moves while you take the defensive, preparing to throw up negation fields.

You pat him on the shoulder smiling as best as a wolf can smile.

"Good. Very good. Tomorrow, more road work."

After waving goodbye, you begin to look for a tree to sleep in but realize that the town is in a huge grassy plain sitting by a river. There aren’t any trees nearby.
