Haha, yeah based on my Falcon BMS experience the F-16 is pretty idiot-proof. The only problem I've run into so far is that I'm too used to the fuel tanks of the Flanker. I've had to land on far too many divert fields because of that.
What kind of stuff did you do during your service? You were in the Israeli Air Force, right?

I was an F-16I groundcrew for 4 years.

The first 2 as a regular tech - Doing all the basic maintenance.
Note that unlike in other proper self-respecting and people-respecting airforces where each groundcrew member has his own specific job, the job of a groundcrew tech in the IAF is all the basic maintenence jobs put together.
It ♥♥♥♥ your health up pretty bad, because other than the load of work you get, groundcrews in the IAF work roughly 25/8 (because 24/7 is for pussies).
Oh, and the IAF has major lack of manpower in the squadrons, so you have like, 20 techs on a line (7 jets) rather than the 40 there are supposed to be.

Anyways, by the end of my 2nd year I got my crew commander rank in the mechanics line of work, which is basically THE WHOLE GODDAMN AIRPLANE except munitions, though I found myself working in that field alot as well.

By the end of my mandatory service I got out of the line and became a full time mechanic, now working on 4 lines (24 jets) rather than just one.
I really liked the work so I signed a contract for another year (Also to get some cash, though the pay isn't that great, roughly ~1200$ a month, but it sure was better than the ~100$ a month you get in mandatory service).

Being a full time mechanic means that you leave the basic groundcrew life with all the basic maintenance bull♥♥♥♥ and start working with serious stuff.
I've done a whole ton of ♥♥♥♥ - hydraulics (♥♥♥♥ YOU HYDRAULIC SYSTEM B PUMP!!!!!), fuel systems (♥♥♥♥ YOU FUEL FLOW PROPORTIONER!!!!), cooling systems (♥♥♥♥ YOU VARIABLE PRESSURE VALVE AND ♥♥♥♥ YOU TOO, HIGH STAGE VALVE!!!!!), replacing landing gear struts (OH GOD NOOOO!!!!!), fault indicating and replacing ♥♥♥♥ components that were so tightly packed that it felt like trying to put a cube shape through a circle shape.

Sometime after I went to an engine operators course. Got that ♥♥♥♥ on the first try (Falcon BMS helped alot).
And some more time after that I did the second part of the course (First part is operation at 80% and the second is full throttle). Got that ♥♥♥♥ on the first try as well.

I ♥♥♥♥ loved to do engine checkouts. I probably did around 100 within the 10 months since I got the license.
Nothing beats the flow of energy you get when you go full throttle. Nothing.
That sound the engine made when going between 87% to 90% made me jizz.

And that's it, I got tired of the bull♥♥♥♥ bureaucracy in the IAF, finished my contract and discharged just over a month ago.
That's my story.

this is why i never buy single player AAA games unless i know i like them

I know I'm not I go through game seasons - each year I have different tastes, that vary from month to month and week to week. One day I might want to play a shooter, the next I could be playing a grand strategy game. A few weeks ago I was playing Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II, now I regularly play Payday 2 with my brother in between goes of Dwarf Fortress

Funny enough, I don't think that happens to me in all honesty. Most of the games I play I will spend weeks on at a time (aside from occasional cravings for games that are out of season), ploughing through them and then continuing on with the next campaign. Crusader Kings 2, for example. From the icy plains and primal forests of Skyrim to the bustling city of King's Landing and the open plains of the Dothraki Sea, I'm never without something new to do, since the game's abundance of mods and the very nature of its design ensures that it has infinite replayability, like most of the other games I play. I have enslaved the population of an entire kingdom, replacing their lords with my own sons and destroyed their culture and religion. I have led the Wehrmacht on a glorious, successful invasion of the continental United States after crushing the USSR beneath my tank treads. I have smashed the legions of Rome and brought an end to the Eternal City and their Empire. I have taken Spain from being the sickly, dying power of Western Europe and marched her into the Industrial Age, bringing all the other great powers of the world to heel once again, even the mighty British Empire.

Infinite replayability I can even take a save from one game, and take it into the next; from Europa Universalis Rome to Crusader Kings 2 to Europa Universalis IV to Victoria 2 and Hearts of Iron, two thousand years of human history at my fingertips, ready to be reshaped according to my will.

So yeah, I don't get that :p

I don't actually remember the time I last bought a big budget AAA title, if I ever have. The closest thing I have is probably Payday 2, though I do own Borderlands, but that was because of a bundle.

Nowadays when I buy a game it's either because it has good coop or because it's part of a series I'm interested in
There are some exceptions though, I'm kinda excited for both Cities: Skylines and Eugen Systems' upcoming new releaseDamn, I wish I had applied to be a mechanic for my military service. Then again, I've heard they only really take in people who already have experience in the field, so I'd be SOL.

Very few AAA games are worth mentioning. Borderlands, TES series, a selection of Tom Clancy games, Assassin's Creed series.

And in all honesty, it's kinda unfortunate that some of the companies that develop these games are the ones attempting to bring something new to the table every time. Whether it be a success or not, it's still something commendable nowadays.

But probably ends up being a money grab anyway.

it's free, it's not ugly (but not as pretty as dcs), it has multiplayer, and it has a very good tutorial video i could link if anyone's interested to get you going
